So I used to watch DBZ when I was younger and thought it was the best thing ever(who on here didnt); but looking back I realize its probably one of the worst animes ever made. Horrible story line and no character development whatsoever.

I mean practically all the main villains (frieza, buu, etc..) had no motive and just wanted to destroy the world just because. No depth to any of the characters, no backstory on the villains everything is just black and white. Either evil or good.

In naruto and other animes countless episodes are spent developing the main characters and the villains and how they became the villain. I mean all of naruto is about how Sasuke grows into a villain. DBZ is just a very simplistic anime.Only thing going to DBZ was the action. Im just saiyin (lol see wat I did there)...

It's just funny to even attempt to compare a piece from the 80's that was the inspiration for so many manga/anime to a series that used it as inspiration. Dragonball's story is actually pretty strong up to the end of the Cell Saga.

It's a shame the young man can't appreciate and respect a legend appropriately.

A lot of you feel that just because DBZ was popular is reason enough for it to be great. Yes I know it probably influenced all the great animes out today and thats great but try to think about this objectively, just because something is popular doesn't make it great. Jersey Shore, Justin Beiber, REBECCA BLACK are prime examples of this!

How can you complain about it being to much action, not enough charcter development...I used to come home every day from school and watch it on toonami (miss you Tom) but before Naruto I thought it was the greatest thing ever on TV...besides Courage the Cowardly Dog, nothing else could compare to DBZ to me. Now I'd say Naruto is either tied or a very close 2nd to the best animated television I've ever seen.

Ok seriously you do realize that DBZ was the base of 90% of the Naruto fans childhood. DBZ will live on as a legend in all of our hearts til the day we die. Naruto will do the same for the next generation and so on and so on with new manga, but don't come in here hating on DBZ. Just gtfo

I kind of agree with you man, when I was a kid it didn't get much better than DBZ but like a year ago when I tried to watch it again I just couldn't get into it. I've realized there are just much better anime than DBZ now. That's a good thing though! I would hope anime would get better as time goes on and people started to get more creative, and the art and animation got better.

Even though I LOVED IT, there are some episodes that are SLOW as hell, I remember Goku talking for like 3 episodes, making a genkidama. Some are PLAIN awesome.
