I think there are better series out there but DBZ's fighting style is really entertaining and it has inspired many mangakas. However, I disagree that it has a better story-line, OP's story is better and it's only reached the half-way point like 3 yrs ago. Also, you shouldn't let your nostalgia get in the way of your judgement of a series or anything in general.

DBZ manga had some great fights , but the "non canon" DBZ movies had some great fights as well . Some.
When you have something good, don't ruin it so badly. That's what happened.
HORRIBLE DBZ fights " CELL vs Vegeta/Trunks, Buu vs Gohan, Buu absorbing Gotenks/Piccolo right in front of Gohan, not coming up with something useful for the Human Z fights -____- wtf

The storyline was not the best, that's a fact.

Storyline was just: Villains show up and try to destroy and the world and become the most powerful for no absolute reason.

Characters were great, and their development were also good.

Characters looked crappy with barely any unique design to them.

Everything after Dragon Ball was crap to me. Kid Goku's story was good. After that it went to shit.

No , DBZ 's storyline is better than OP but that doesn't mean OP' storyline sucks , both are good but DBZ IS BETTER

Fights are not the only things that make a manga better than others....although there are many mangas with better fights than DBZ.
Also DBZ lacks a constructive story line and character development. U_U
Although it is a legend.....but calling it the best is just your own opinion!! U_U
