There are many inconsistencies within the Dragon Ball series, especially in Super. The power levels are so full of sh*t. I wonder what happened to the days where power levels didn't mean anything in an anime, but skill did? Just because a person is stronger, doesn't mean they'll beat a person who is weaker, because that person is more skilled and combat intelligent.

Number one, he reached a level where he has God ki, therefore he was already able to barely hold his own, number two he also got some energy from Goku and Vegeta as well.

Trunks already received a power-up a few episodes back that put him on par with SSB Goku and let him fight Black.

I wasn't keen on it, but it can make sense if you put your mind to it. This yellow-blue Trunks form is stronger than the one that fought SSJ3 Goku - it was capable of going toe to toe with Goku Black/Zamasu individually. Factor in that this fused Zamasu had been given a hard beating from Vegito - and is therefore much weakened - plus the fact that all those people gave some of their energy, plus the god ki of Goku and Vegeta, and it's not a huge stretch of sense.
