. Just as his father before him, he showed an incredible amount of skill with the blade as a young child. Longing to stand out from his father, Masamune began to develop his own unique sword style involving the use of six swords. As Masamune grew up he also began to develop an interest in the outside world. More roads and transportation made exploring the country much easier. It is here that Masamune began to outgrow the ancient traditions of his family. The world seemed much more civilized and modern than his family estate. While it still resembled a traditional Samurai society, it had become more open to new ideas. One idea that deeply impacted Masamune was the thought that dying outside of battle could be just as noble as being killed by the blade. It was an idea that directly conflicted with his family's brutal tradition of the son slaying the father to give him an honorable death; a tradition that had long troubled the young Masamune's mind.
Despite the creeping of outside influences into Masamune's thoughts, he kept it to himself for the most part. He still adopted many of the traditional values his family had adhered to for centuries before. The ideas of honor, respect and the blade were all well formed in Masamune's personality. He became a true warrior who honored the Bushido code. He worked meticulously to develop his six sword style, the Rokusouryuu, becoming extremely proficient with it. Using this style he gained fame throughout the surrounding areas. But as he grew older and his fate of slaying his father drew ever nearer, the doubts in his mind about his family began to grow. He struggled to accept the old customs of his family and an internal struggle took place. He didn't want to insult his family and its ancestors, but he had to do what he felt in his heart was right.
When it came time for Masamune to preform the family's sacred ritual Masamune made a radical choice. He would not kill his father, instead, he would set him and the Manji family free. It came to the point where Yoshimitsu handed the Ancestral Blade to Masamune and prepared for his death. Masamune took the sword and contemplated one last time his decision. Accepting his choice, Masamune leaped to the roof behind his father to the dismay of his family. There he explained to him his decision, he explained that for far too long their family had adhered to the ancient and unjust traditions. He told them that they were shackled to an immoral fate by the very blade that represented their ancestors. Masamune declared that by removing the Ancestral Blade from the Manji family, he would set them free of their shackles and allow them to step forward into the new world. And with that, Masamune disappeared.
To avoid being tracked down by his family, Masamune started going by the family name Date. While he still holds his family dear to his heart, he realizes that that life is in the past. He hopes to forge his own family under the Date name. Little is known of what happened during the few years after Masamune left his family as he tried to lay low. What is known is that he ventured to the south and at some point lost his right eye. His fame slowly spread and rumors of a One-Eyed Dragon in the South quickly spread through the Land of Iron. As of now he wonders the Land of Iron searching for Samurai he deems strong enough to follow him. After earning the title of Dragon of the South, Masamune settled and now leads a strong force of Samurai.
Other
Dragon's Claw: This is the nickname given to the six katana Masamune wields when using his Rokusouryuu; or six claws style. To use these six katana simultaneously he grasps them in between his fingers on both hands starting in between the pinky and ring finger, and through the next two slots. This gives it them the appearance of long claws on his hand similar to that of Wolverine from X-men.
Ancestral Blade: This sword is the heirloom of his former family which he carries with him as a reminder of his past. He holds a great love for his family buy can never face them again after running away with their sacred weapon. Though he prefers to use his Rokusouryuu, he does on occasion wield the Ancestral Blade with expert swordsmanship.
Other Weapons: Besides his swords, Masamune keeps several pouches full of useful tools such as smoke bombs, explosive tags, kunai and shuriken on his waist. These items are ones that he picked up on trips to the Ninja world on several occasions.
Samurai Techniques: Like all Samurai, Yoshi is proficient in the use of chakra manipulation and can coat each of his weapons with a layer of chakra increasing their cutting power and length.
