CHAPTER FIVE: THE WAY OF THE SWORD
We charged at each other weapon clasped tight in our hands like waves of sea break up on mountain rocks our weapons clashed, metal rang against metal sword matched sword. I was ready my battle instincts awaken, blood running wild though vain again and again we clashed, and my sword against his. The giant was far more powerful his attacks shook ground the craters around my position bearing testimony to this, but I was no plaything speed agility and power is something every one of my kind is born with. We were more or less evenly matched.
It had been half an hour still we are fighting my body is full of wounds perhaps a few bones broken as well but he was covered in wounds blood has covered every visible place. But now it’s time to finish this fight the last strike my grip around the handle of sword tightened I could see him preparing as well. And with a battle cry we rushed at each other our blades met in the middle the force of the attack created a shockwave the shattered the rocks around us in a split second we two were standing in the other’s former position our backs facing each other. I felt a huge cut appearing on my chest crimson life flowing freely through the wound staggering I managed to stand until a loud thud from behind told me I have won. Then everything blacked out.
A faint light showed me the figure standing in front of me as I opened my eyes. My body still sore from the wounds of the battle. “Where am I, and who are you?” I blurted out.
The gigantic figure replied in a gruff voice, “Ulthane lord of the giants at yer service kid, if I remember it was yeh and yer brother who were searching for me.” I tried to sit but fell down, “how long was I out cold and is my brother alright.” “2days kid but yeh need more rest and the brother of yours is in the next room. For the next 2 years these will be yer rooms and home while I teach yeh how to squash the lizards back to their holes.”I reluctantly lay down again I wanted to meet Marcus but that didn’t seem possible so decided to take another nap.
Three months later
Marcus and I were facing each other in the round arena while the giants stood witness both of us were dressed in similar manner leather armor and heavy metal gauntlets as well as the masks covering our face. For these three months Ulthane and his people have trained us in the way of sword, the physiology of our opponents the weak spots of them and their different types. Today was just a test to measure our progress. We locked our eyes and focused, they have taught us that eyes are the gate way of one’s mind and right now two sons of Doomhammer are busy trying to intrude the other’s mind. Dark clouds gathered overhead with my heightened senses I could smell the water in the air, water was not my type and then the lightning struck. With the flash of light we launched upon each other sword meeting sword. We were evenly matched in every ground he blocked my overhead slash with his arm guard and attempted to slash at my throat which I blocked by my metal gauntlet. It was like an intricate dance form both of us complimenting and taunting other at the same time the earth hot under our speedy movement water drops slashed and wind sweeping our cloaks off. Marcus lifted his free hand rain dropped in it I knew he was going to use elements to attack a faint smirk appeared at my face as I brought my sword back for a furious slash but this time instead of my rage I was calm and suddenly I felt a blue aura is circulating around the blade. “Water whip” “furious slash” we roared at the same time and my sword cut through his whip of water as well as creating trench along the ground.
“Ruddy brilliant am proud of yeh” came the booming voice of Ulthane. We stopped at once turning to face our teacher and sank in a deep bow.
Later, “Oi Marcus how did you use the rain drops to form that whip? I have never seen you use such elemental command.” I asked to which he shrugged and replied, “Wish I knew I felt like the water called out for me. I just knew I had to wish it form as a weapon but what with your attack your attack used to be red.”I thought for a moment and said “am not totally sure but may be because this time I was not enraged rather calm and calculating.”
“That’s certainly interesting to command your attacks as your mood shifts it’s kind’ a unique. But it’s really powerful” I nodded still thinking over that attack ‘well I will have to find more about the attack.’
Next morning I found a scroll at my bedside opening it I saw
“Your swords man skill is worth praise and therefore from now on lord Ulthane shall take you to the deeper of our mountain. You are to meet him at the gate of the grand forge by noon.”
The scroll bore no signature but judging by the script I would guess it to be written by one of the angels who serve Ulthane.
2 years later
I wash practicing the sword moves as Ulthane sat on the big rock on the left my training was about to be completed.
“Oi boy don’t get stiff and flow with the move, your sword is part of you keep it in yer ruddy mind and get to work faster and swifter this time.” I closed my eyes feeling attuned with my blade in spite of having my eyes closed I could see everything just fine that’s the power of a true swordsman the instincts working all at once “begin” roared the lord of giants and I began my move.
Marcus point of view
I stood on the cliff overlooking the training arena my training in evoker magic had been completed and I was bearing witness to the result of my brother’s quest. He moved like a blur light reflecting from his sword. It was like a brilliantly choreographed dance Ulthane said something I could not hear them clearly but saw Nathaniel to stop. Four skeleton warriors rose from the ground each holding a saber in left hand and a round shield in the right. They stood in a line formation waiting; I believe I saw a snicker flash across Nathaniel’s face. And then like an arrow released from the bows they moved together and in the next instant I saw my brother standing alone as his adversaries returned to nothingness. God his speed is at least ten times it was before he swings the huge blade like its nothing I wonder if the shields of fallen angels can withstand him. But for me I am not brutal no I kill swift and smooth Azrael has taught me to command water at my will and as long as I can reach water I am invincible. A footstep from behind broke me out of reverie. Dressed in black robes over battle garb captain Tyrande stood. “My lord a vast army of the demon swordsman and necromancers have been spotted near the north border, lord Abbadon wants you two immediately.” An entire battalion of nephilm soldiers stood behind her.
“Tell him we are on our way” came the voice of my brother. Startled I turned back to see him grinning at me.
Normal POV
It felt good to see Marcus again after two years on the day when I was selected for the apprentice ship from Ulthane he had been selected by Azrael.
“Aye brat it is a gift from me slay one for me too.” Ulthane threw me a huge blade made of black metal and full of runes almost as high me. I used it to test the balance it was perfect despite the thickness and weight this blade was like custom made for me. Placing the blade on my back I issued my command “now Nephilims to war. Time has arrived to stain our blades with the blood of our enemies.
Tiriana pov
I stood in the front lines fitted with the dark iron forged armor and dark wolf like helm. I am the captain of the 2nd nephilim cavalry. Like my ancestors before me I too was ready to sacrifice my life for my race and thus in spite of being female I was considered a warrior of prodigious skills. I prided myself for my looks black hair flowed like a mane and reached the lower of my backs my assets were as the other males put it enough to turn angels hard. But what I prided myself most was on my use of twin blades simultaneously as well as the war whip. Ambriel stood beside me dressed in golden armor that shone on the sun light. She seemed really happy about something a smile gracing her beautiful lips. “Tell me Ambriel you seem truly very happy about something.” She smiled beautifully before answering,” of course I am he is returning today you have no idea how lonely it gets without him.” And here she was always thinking about her loved one I mean alright he is a great guy got skill beyond belief but Ambriel was just like too much in love. I swore to myself I will never let her dream die she will get the happiness she deserves. that is the least I can do for my best friend.
