I think Danzo is one of the truest forms of the shinobi ideal that's my... "head canon", I suppose.
Naruto is not a shinobi (to me). He's a hero, a saviour.
Sakura? She's not either. She's a healer.
I think out of the three, Sasuke is the closest but... he's more ronin, to me. He has pride, his sense of honour (refusing to following Orochimaru's ideals on killing indiscriminately), but he lacks the true essence of what it is to be a shinobi; a tool for the village. He is without a master and is devoted to avenging his Clan.
Is Danzo a good guy? No.
Is he likeable? Not to me.
Do I agree with his methods? Not really, but I can understand why he did what he did - I can empathise to an extent. What it must have been like, after having someone like Tobirama leading to then have Hiruzen and his... compassion. Lol sickening. Orochimaru is a prime example of Hiruzen's failure as a Kage. His inability to see and stop it before it got as far as it did, to end him when he had the chance... how many suffered as a result of that?
It would have been interesting, if Minato had lived, to see how Danzo would have developed then... all the Elders I suppose. Their position (as far as I know) was reliant on Hiruzen's friendship with them...
