While I utterly disagree, that is one way to look at it. To me, he's the most interesting character by far. To just say "he's evil" does an injustice to Kishi in my eyes. Same as when someone says he's simply good. He's in the middle.
To Danzō, Danzō's way = Konoha's way.
But again, I respect your opinion.
I never said he was evil. he doesn't wake up and say, "today, I'm going to kill an orphan." he is in the middle, though closer to evil than to good. I was stating why I disliked him so much, not that is was evil to the bone.
Generally, I like complex anti-heroes (Sasuke, Lelouch, Jaime Lannister (never have I been so disturbed to like a character) Severus Snape, Elphaba Thropp, Gaius Baltar, and Gollum), but Danzo really irks me. It's a completely subjective thing. All of my arguments could be used against any of the characters I just listed. If they were, I would writing a defense of them. However, Danzo just really angered me.
Danzo tries to use logic for his actions but in my opinion it's
horrible logic. It's incredibly
short-term.
1) Uchiha planning a coup. Short term; kill them to prevent it. long term: losing a freakishly powerful kekkei genkai, thereby weakening the Leaf.
2) Let Pain massacre some leafs. short term: Danzo becomes Hokage. long term: a lot of ninjas are dead. thus, the Leaf's loses military prestige. This prestige would help to convince the other villages that the Leaf needs to lead the Alliance. Now, that wouldn't happen. With so many dead ninjas, the Leaf wouldn't have much to bring to the table. The major powers would look down upon them. Only world powers led world alliances.
3) Akatsuki might be a threat. short term: have one of them kill their leader who happens to be his best friend, so they have no leadership. long term: you have one really angry ninja who could now take command and make you pay.
he ignored better options because only Danzo's opinion is worthy of consideration
Uchiha massacre: just kill the leaders (not everyone), and then give them what was refused in negotiations. The Uchiha are 1) appeased and 2) too scared to try that again. He should not have killed innocents, like Sasuke's aunt or plan to murder a child because murdering innocents is wrong. It's also wrong to judge a party guilty before they have the chance to argue their case.
Murdering Yahiko: You can't judge someone guilty if you think they'll become a threat in the future. you have to judge what has already happened. However, Danzo just murdered the leader an organization that promotes world peace.
Failing to aid the Leaf; the act I hate the most. Before this I just disliked him, but after that I hated him. If you can save someone from death, you have the ethical obligation to save them. Danzo didn't save them. Danzo didn't give a crap about the citizens he wanted to rule.
My final problem is I have seen this character countless times! Sure, you can look at a character and say he's complex, which he is. I look at him and say you remind me of these other characters. Also, adding another character to the list Capitán Vidal. (Admittedly, this guy is Danzo x 100 million evilness.)
Of course, I respect your opinion. Unlike seemingly 99.9999999999% of the internet, I understand there are opinions other than mine that are valid. I just want my opinion out there too. Again, he's not a cardboard, but I really, really hate him.
