Had he killed nagato, akatsuki would have failed right then and there and Tobi would have needed to find another way to get all of the tailed beasts and extract their chakra. He is an unsung hero.

its funny. the things people condemn danzo for doing, itachi also did. did itachi abandon his village and leave it to die at oros hands? yes. did he create villains that otherwise wouldnt appear if it werent for his corrupting actions? yes. did he murder people and take eyes from people (given or not he still took it and then rendered it useless)? yes.
