Danzo is shown to have relations with Oruchimaru after he's gone to his 'hole', and Danzo plotted Hiruzen's death a number of times, so its highly likely that he had a hand in the chunin invasion.
It is shown many times that he was too frustated with Hiruzen's views and was ready to take the extreme measures to get him off the role of hokage. In the anime he is shown to assign a bunch of his root soilders to kill hiruzen.
Also, Danzo is shown to have the attitude of 'sacrifice for greater good' like in Uchiha massacre.
He also ordered root to not aid konoha during pein's invasion, in hopes of ending Tsunade's reign as hokage.
so it seems to be quite possible he'll let Oruchimaru attack konoha kill hiruzen and 'slip' in a little info from here and there so as to make sure konoha isn't completely distroyed.
