i can see danzo trying to usurp hiruzen, he didnt care oro attacked the villiage infact they were working together. and i could have sworn i read that the kakashi anbu filler was written by kishi. idk.

Totally forgot about that! though to be fair, that was more because Hiruzen was nearing seventy, already ****ed up with Naruto and Sasuke so Danzo really needed to get Hiruzen out of the way.

Who knows, maybe Danzo just thought Hiruzen would get crippled or something, not go all "SHINIGAMI GET IN MA BELLY"
