I randomly came across it and just finished the 2 main games and the 3part concluding anime.

Cheesy at times but that story touched me >.<

The mysteries, variety and depth of characters, plot/twists, setting and mechanics were so bizzare and I loved it.

One of my favorite series yet and the best in awhile so this is that post-completion raging urge to talk about it.

Does NB like it too? Or just the games perhaps? Any dislikes?

Nope, never liked it. I thought it was a waste if time for the most part.Plot twists (which seem to be the prominent quality of the story) happen way too often that it becomes repetitive and predictable and dont even get me started on that generic, excuse of a "detection" that happnes every once in while.

Nonetheless, I heard it's awfully popular in Japan

Hmm I think it became predictable when a twist would occur but not how the twist would transpire(for the most part anyways) or I just suck at analyzing. However I can see your point still!

For me I like tragedies, weird over the top looniness while still having a serious plot, ideal conflicts & mysteries.. kind of like Gurren Lagann so I guess that's my appeal to it and I imagine that's what Japan is liking too.
