Close your mind, because I know nothing. U_U

Anyway, go ahead and link me your bio and then explain everything you can about sand and its related subjects. :)

My how humble of you. :pwease:

-Ahem- Link to Gaara bio:

From what I know (which ain't much), Sand Release is the ability to manipulate sand which is a fine mixture of rock and mineral particles. There seem to be different variations of sand depending on the terrain but not sure if such a concept applies to our RP or the Narutoverse in general. From what I've seen, it seems Gaara manipulates desert sand more than anything. How he is able to manipulate the sand itself, either from his gourd or from the terrain, stems from the fact that he is able to use Magnetism Release, much like his father the Fourth Kazekage. Rasa, Gaara's father and 4th Kazekage, followed after the 3rd Kazekage (who himself was able to manipulate Iron Sand) using his own variation known as Gold Sand. Why the RP fails to recognize Gaara's ability to use Gold Sand and Magnetism Release is beyond me.

Sand appears to be weak towards water as it turns it into mud, slowing the effect of the sand and at times rendering it null. I assume like the real world that substantial heat can turn Sand into glass. I like that Sand is pretty strong and given Gaara's usage of it, I've really been amazed how far he's come with it. I hope to understand as much as I can and push myself to be recognized for him.

That's it so far from my end sensei.

Lovely, a few more..
  1. List what elements of the Basic 5 are strong and weak to sand.
  2. Is terrain-sand or the sand within his gourd considered stronger?
  3. Where does Gaara's ultimate defense come from? In short, what is its origin?
  4. What happens if Gaara runs out of sand?
  5. What is a major way Gaara uses sand techniques? In short, how are these techniques controlled?
  6. Does Gaara have to be on the ground to manipulate sand on/in the earth?

From what I gathered, Sand is weak to lightning though not sure if it's because of its piercing, destructive power or its ability to influence the magnetism that Gaara uses to manipulate the sand. It is strong against wind because instead of being destroyed, it combines with the wind and becomes a sand storm which with tact can either be directed back at the user or on oneself. It also seems that a higher ranked sand technique is strong against fire however a weaker rank would be turned to glass due to the intensity of the flames. Most of this I gathered from looking at Gaara's training thread because I wasn't quite sure how sand really interacted with the other elements. Sand is such a foreign concept to me but I understand better the more I research. ^^ Like I mentioned earlier about the water, doesn't it make the sand heavier as well?

I would assume the gourd sand is stronger because it is mixed with his chakra so he is able to manipulate the density of the sand at a much greater rate than if using normal sand from the terrain although I could be wrong.

Gaara's ultimate defense comes from his ability to increase the density and amount of sand at any given time however it has it's drawbacks which I assume it translates in our RP as turn limits/usage. Manga-wise, his ultimate defense comes from his mother's love which somehow, along with remnants of her chakra (in theory), provides an auto-defense mechanism that triggers on its own though to some extent I would assume he can manipulate it via his willpower. Or it could be the fact that Sand is very good against all elements to some extent allowing Gaara to suffer less weaknesses when compared to only water, fire, wind, and earth. But I must accept that at some point, I am not completely sure.

If Gaara runs out of sand (which I've never heard of or paid attention to >_>), all he does is grind the earth he is on and transforms it into free sand. Other than that...it's interesting because what happens when he is on terrain where there is no earth like water or...damn. I have no clue. :(

Gaara is one of those few characters who don't really move from their spot. Instead he uses his sand to attack from varying distances to pressure his opponent to come to him. Having great control over sand allows him to be versatile in his fighting style ranging from wide attacks to focused attacks. To make it even more awesome, he manipulates sand to the point he can hover/fly on it further improving his line of sight. I am intrigued really on how he is able to do all this and appear unfazed even when facing high-profile enemies. I assume he uses a mixture of magnetism and chakra control of the sand he has at his disposal. Being the intelligent kid he is I would assume as well that during his battles he also continually grinds earth to create sand and create a near infinite supply for his attacks.

I would assume he doesn't as he has been seen using high-ranked sand techniques from his sand cloud or on the roof of high buildings. I would guess that for the lower techniques they are easy peasy to use from high distances. But to be safe I would guess he needs to be some distance near for maximum effect.

From the Elemental Guide..

"Weak to: Water; as shown in the filler arc, Gaara's sand becomes near impossible for him to manipulate when soaked up with water. Lightning also seems to be very effective against it since Sasuke's chidori managed to pierce Gaara's ultimate defense.

Strong to: Earth and Fire. It has been shown that Sand has a high tolerance to Fire and that i can also be used to grind earth or to become dense enough to compete with even the hardest rocks."

Since wind is never mentioned, assume wind is neutral to sand.

Correct, although for RP purposes it is the same (although potentially has bonuses for CJ).

The mother's love explanation tends to be the accepted reason. Speculation is always a bonus though.

The ability of Gaara to grind earth into sand is the important part I wanted you to include, which you did. So nice job.

Good! Also body movements are key! Much of the time, he uses arm motions that mimic the path of the sand he is controlling. If you watch his fights you will noticed this a lot more.

Correct. Gaara does not need to be on the ground. This is a big distinction from normal earth release which usually requires contact. This is a major reason why sand is so powerful when used correctly.

For some reason I confused the chidori with his later usage of amaterasu. But yes, I remember now in the Chuunin Exams how he was able to break his defense. And nice to know more about the strengths/weaknesses.

I was thinking about the hand motions he does but I got sidetracked and forgot to mention them. Gaara and his father seem to do the same thing in NUNS (Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games) with Gaara having more mobility than him or maybe I didn't pay enough attention to Rasa. >_>

Thanks for the hints on CJ ideas. >:]

So what next sensei?

Not any at this moment but if we come across them I'll be sure to point out it out. Thanks for asking though. ^__^
Then let's get into it. I will leave it up to you to decide what you must include when I post a technique. If I feel like youre just trying to blow through it without trying, ill post a horribly thorough and complex template for you to work off of. Neither of us want that. So! We will start off with an easy one..

(Daisan No Me) - The Third Eye
Rank: D
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short-Long
Chakra Cost:10
Damge Points:N/A
Description:The user creates a eye out of sand. This eye is then connected by an invisible link to the optic nerve thus allowing he user to see with that eye (connect eye must be closed) The eye must remain close to the user but has a seeing range of 20/20 vision.
Note: Only Sand users can use this jutsu

As the technique says, make an eye of sand that you use as a replacement for one of your own.

(Daisan No Me) - The Third Eye

This is an interesting technique considering it allows you to see in places you otherwise could not. It's interesting this version doesn't require handseals so it's low chakra cost is a plus side. I think one of it's downsides is that in order to use you have to close one eye. So instead of actually being a "third eye" it is just basically one of your two eyes considering you have to close one of them to see with it. Great for spying and considering it's 20/20 vision, it allows you to see things clearly up to a certain point. One thing that worries me is the description. Although you can see with it up to long range (I assume based on the range), the description says you must keep it close. I figure it's to the same circumstances with genjutsu where you have to have a certain distance in order for your chakra to reach otherwise it loses its effect. Although it allows you to see things from a different angle, you compromise your line of sight when using it so it's best to use tactfully from a distance while protected. It's still a nice technique but I wonder what happens if it gets caught in an attack would it harm the user or could it act like a safer version of a clone, giving you a heads up of anything happening ahead? I assume since it's made of chakra that it can be detected by chakra sensors and those with a dōjutsu or is it undetectable?

I assume you want me to perform the technique for you too or is giving my analysis and asking questions okay with you? I'd rather understand the how and why of a jutsu during training as it can serve me when training others in it later.

A short description of performing would suffice. Id rather the bulk of your posts relate to analysis and questions. Just a small description so I know you'll be able to perform it in battle, please.

Also once the eye is hit or destroyed, that's all that happens. The eye will be destroyed which of course will alert you to an attack if you are unable to see it. Sight will return to your actual eye. You will not take damage.

Awesome. It says I can make it whatever size I want so is it possible to make it smaller and still retain the same 20/20 vision? Does the eye travel from himself to a destination or can he make the eye appear anywhere there is sand?

Gaara stood a distance from you and took a moment to decide where to have his third eye appear. He figured behind his sensei would be a good spot. As he placed his right index and middle finger over his left eye, closing it, Gaara channels his chakra towards the sand behind his sensei. He then manipulates the sand to take the form of a normal size eyeball. Being invisibly linked to his optic nerve, Gaara adjusts the vision until he can see clearly. He is now looking at his sensei's back and then proceeds to inform him.

"I can see your back now."

The size is left up to you. Bigger or smaller than the default size wont affect the technique. You can make it anywhere there is sand.

(Suna no Jutsu) - Sand Technique

Ah yes the obligatory technique that allows you versatility and creativity. I assume this type of technique allows you to block projectiles that aren't powered by chakra correct? Considering it's low rank, is it safe to assume that this can also block some of the lower-ranked taijutsu techniques? Considering sand is a variation of earth release, by condensing certain spots in the technique you can reduce the impact of an incoming technique or attack. If I am correct, Gaara's use of this technique in NUNS is he uses this to build up to his big attack all while riding his sand cloud. Now that I look at it, it's short range is quite nice especially for CQC where you can combine with taijutsu.

Gaara, seeing there was no dummy's to use for training decided to provide his own. He channels his chakra and uses it to create a shadow clone next to him.

(Kage Bunshin no Jutsu) - Shadow Clone Technique
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The Kage Bunshin distributes the ninja's chakra evenly among the clones and creates a real copy with form and substance. The clone itself can also utilize any jutsu the original ninja knows. When the clone finally disperses, any new knowledge it has gained is passed back to the original ninja and any additional clones. Upon impact, the clone can be dispersed.
Gaara and his clone then stand in short range looking at each other. They give the obligatory handshake and then back away just a bit but still within short distance. The clone begins by throwing a kunai towards Gaara which he then manipulates his sand to form a small shield, blocking it. The clone then runs towards Gaara, clenches his right fist as he draws his right arm back. He then pushes it forward using his momentum, aiming to throw a punch to his face. Although Gaara could see the punch coming, he couldn't do much to react fast enough but still managed to move to his right. The punch missed his face which Gaara took advantage of by then doing a hand motion with his left hand and manipulating his sand to strike the clone in his face. Taking the hit, the clone was pushed back but managed to regain his ground. He then waited for the next attack.

"Okay sensei. How was that?"

(Kodzuku) - Punch
Type: Offensive
Rank: D
Range: Short
Chakra: N/A
Damage: 20
Description: One of the simplest moves in Taijutsu, the user will simply use one of his hands to deliver a simple punch by clenching his fist and swinging his arm. The user is free to do variations of a basic frontal punch and the technique though simple, can be deadly for strong users.

Rank: D
Type: Supplementary/Attack/Defense
Range: Short
Chakra cost: 10
Damage Points: 20

Wonderful. This technique can stop elemental techniques according to sand's strengths and weaknesses as well. So off the top of my head.. C-rank fire/earth, D-rank wind, and cannot stop any lightning or water. The rest of your description is wonderful.

Next..

( Suna Hokori Sākuru ) - Sand Dust Circle
Rank: D
Type: Offensive
Range: Short - Mid
Chakra cost: 10
Damage points: 20
Description: Gaara manipulates his sand to create a spinning pillar of sand rise up from beneath the opponent and lift them into the air.

So you'll need sand already underneath your target to directly use this (or grind some up from the earth). Otherwise you'll have to send sand forward and that'll make it nearly useless. A good way to get your target airborne.

(Suna Hokori Sākuru) - Sand Dust Circle

This reminds me of the Earth Release technique and people's usage of it regarding pillars. Of course this is directed to your opponent so...This is helpful so long as you use it tactfully like you said on a sandy surface or by grinding the present ground. I like the setup though as it allows you to get your opponent in the air even from a distance, allowing you flexibility. I think for this to work you would need to distract/disorient your opponent because I think it's a little to obvious. If it's meant to bait your opponent for another attack, I think it would work quite well though. Considering its low rank I would be careful not just for its weaknesses but for its strengths. I wouldn't use this on a summon but for a normal enemy I would. I'm actually curious if you combine this with a small wind technique (like a mini tornado or similar) if it would help enhance it's damage potential and ability to raise your opponent into the air. I say that considering the description says it makes a "spinning pillar of sand".

~

Gaara throws several kunai with smoke bombs attached towards his clone. As they travel, Gaara channels his chakra and focuses it beneath his clone. He grinds the earth quickly and creates sand from it releasing it then into a spinning pillar beneath him. As the pillar rises quickly, the clone is thrown into the air, leaving him open to an attack. Gaara then channels his lightning-type chakra to his right hand and compresses it into a ball of lightning. He then hurls it and manages to make it land on the clone, creating an explosion of lightning.

A good combo but using a lightning technique that originates above him (in the sky) would be a better choice.
