The problem is that pain alone isn't enough to break tsukyomi, otherwise any fodder would be able to break it. The same goes for advanced sharingan genjutsu. There is a good reason why guy adopted the whole looking at feet strategy to counter the sharingan. think about it-if was as simple as opening the gates to counter it(which guy is a master off) it makes the whole strategy pointless and redundant.)

Because he only activates Gates when he's in a life-or-death situation. That tactic allows him to fight Kakashi without going into Gates, and he has no reason to go into Gates in a friendly fight against his best friend.

Pain deactivates any Genjutsu. The problem with Tsukuyomi is that it's pretty hard to make yourself feel pain when you're completely imprisoned.

Pain doesn't deactivate ANY genjutsu. Don't where that came from. It increases your chances sure-but it isn't a fool proof method. Under that logic, the alliance could have used pain to break through trollkages illusion technique. Furthermore, tsukuyomi itself makes you feel pain in the genjutsu, but it doesn't help you escape. I simply don't see how opening the gates counters tsukyomi and advanced sharingan paralysis genjutsu(It would probably on the finger genjutsu and other weaker variants perhaps.)

]. Like I said before, it's illogical to have Tsukuyomi prepped throughout the battle, especially when there's no guarantee Itachi's opponent will look into his eyes, so it'd be a waste of chakra on Itachi's part.

you countered half my post. As obito knew all of gai's movements using sharingan precog itachi should do the same. Itachi reacted to 1/1000th of a second. I am positive he will be able to prepare Tsukyomi in time. Regardless, gai won't look into Itachi's eyes gates or not. He already saw what happened to kakashi and won't risk doing the same. He doesn't know Tsukuyomi's properties. Itachi still has this.

Regardless you are not convincing anyone here and i'll tell you why.
1- gai saw kakashi getting rapped by Itachi's eye genjutsu and didn't dare look at his eyes once after that. What proof do you have that he will look into his eyes now? Since you know gai can't possibly dodge amaterasu without seeing it you came up with the method of looking into eyes while we both know he won't dare to. Unless you can prove to me that gai will look into Itachi's eyes even though he doesn't know how Tsukyomi works then i shall admit defeat. Otherwise you are just trying your hard to make someone win something we both know he can't.

Of course pain CAN deactivate genjutsu, but it's not a fool proof method. Genjutsu kai is not a fool proof method.(although it can work) Extremely advanced genjutsus like itachi's tsukuyomi, trollkages mirage, jiraiya frog song cannot be beaten by such rudimentary methods. Hope I made my point...
