If the crow ate the coat fruit wouldn't the coat be the awakened part not the crow?

Well the fruit is just like a dormant power. I take that the user 'awakens' an extra ability. The user has to put in the work to unlock that. Because in theory all the devil fruits have the power to be awakened I presume, but only a handful of people can get to that point.

So when people are talking about awakened Devil Fruits, I think it would be better to say awakened Devil Fruit user / abilities.

How do you know that it isn't just the inability of the user to reach full potential of the fruit ?

We haven't seen logia awakened, Para have not shown more than one kind of awakening. Zoans are said to be bigger. Stronger, more durable. Etc when awakened.

What you posted proves he is not awakened, just good with his df

Luffy can go g4 and that's not considered awakened hes just better with his df

The difference being that fire burns people and sand doesn't literally suck the moisture out of bodies to nothing. That ability is clearly not just the effects from the sand he produces but something more.

Nah this is a Manga not real life. Oda didn't even think of awakenings when he said "Sands true ability is to dry everything up"

Is that really what you took away from that or were you trying to be facetious? If it's the latter it didn't work well. burns are an actual side effect of fire. Absorbing all water in a substance through contact is not an actual side effect of sand.

The definition of logia was producing an element, nothing beyond that. No other logia gets residual elemental effects even admirals, Aokiji can't just lower temperatures in objects around him because he can create ice, Akainu can't just melt things without creating said lava from his fruit, yet Croc can drain moisture without producing the sand of his DF, IF he was shown producing sand prior to draining I'd say you had a strong point but that's not what was shown to happen.

Also we know Croc knows about DF awakenings, so taking that what do you think he was implying when he said honed my powers to perfection? If he's honed his DF to perfection then what is that besides awakening?

Why not provide the page where Doffy explicitly says he has awakened his fruit?
