Genjutsu is when a ninja connects their chakra to another ninjas nervous system, this allows the user of the genjutsu to cast illusions on their opponent that the opponent will think is real.

Genjutsu like you said is inserting your own chakra in your opponents body and manipulating that chakra to stop his own ordinary chakra flow affecting his mind and the 5 senses , making him see , smell , hear. illusions that aren't reality althought it doesn't cause physical damage , the brain's damage makes the body paralyzed for a while when under a genjutsu where you see an illusion and you think that it's reality , but in reality your just standing up doing nothing or laying on the ground doing absolutely nothing , now for the D-rank genjutsus you are supposed to try and pierce through with your sharingan...

when you do the Genjutsu, I scan the area and stop when I notice the area you changed. I see your chakra flow in the area you changed and I take a closer look, and see that there wasn't a large stone in the area that I had seen before.*

As the servant comes closer, I focus my sharingan on it, paying close attention, and realize that the servent has your chakra going through him. I look closer, paying more attention to the servent and see he is really just a paper bomb. When I realize that I shoot a stream of water from my mouth, soaking the paper bomb so it can't explode*
