How is Crocodile touching the ground and drying it different from Aokiji touching the ocean and freezing it ?

Or Diamante turning the entire flower field into a flag. Or Lola turning the Sunny into a painting.

Logia and paramecia always had in some extent influence on the surroundings, but Doflamingo just turned buildings into string without coming close to them.

I would accept Crocodile's ability as awakened when he can turn other objects into sand without touching them. Because houses aren't made of string either. Crocodile's drying ability still had limitations as explained in Impel down.

Besides this is doffy's awakening, who knows what other rules there might be to it for different kind of fruits. Maybe Logia have a different effect, because we already seen that Zoan turn to monsters.

It's just a trend now on NB. People will consider anyone awakened if he or she uses his or her DF creatively.

Changing the environment is an awakened power. It will be different for each fruit of course. So Croc turning everything to sand is no different to Doffy turning things to strings or Gladius blowing sh*t up that he's not touching

So he awakened his DF during the time period between Punk Rock Fest and Punk Super Arena? Because there is no reason for him to have to make contact with each spot for Punk Rock Fest if he could inflate them without contact.

If he was awakened it wouldn't have been a spontaneous powerup there and then, he would've awakened before

at that point in the manga i think croc has not awaked anything just using his df im battle.
same as pica is touching stone to move it.
croc is touching the ground and using his ability to dry it out and create more sand. same as gaara has done in naruto.
also ive said it before and ill say it again
luffy then has already awaked his power subconsciously too. examples is when he sling shots with people and they are all safe when hitting the ground. cause luffy subconsciously made them rubber.

Well we don't know for sure if that's what's caused it and also, I find it ludicrous that 2 of the Marines top dogs wouldn't sense anything going on that island after 10 days... I can't remember much from the PH arc to be fair but I didn't think the whole SMILE factory was set up in those two years, as the whole gas problem was from 4 years ago and that was Ceasers doing wasn't it?

Not really, it's just pointing out trends between DF users, logias can produce their "element" at will and yes effect their environment, Aokiji can freeze stuff, Ace can burn shit and Crocodile can cover stuff in sand... Oh wait, he has a special ability that SUCKS the moisture out of anything he touches, a little bit off the trend and I wouldn't say was just "creativity." Someones just posted the panel I've mentioned a few times, Crocodile said so himself he's honed his DF powers.

Furthermore I think we've seen a few awakened devil fruit already, but a couple of the people using it don't necessarily know that they have.
