Couldn't Tobirama have used FTG to escape the Kinkaku force?

What if he were to mark the area he was in, lure them away then just fly off to where he left the mark? My only guess is he didn't use it and decided to trust the next generation not to put up a fight until the others could escape then purposely getting himself killed? FTG is a bit overpowered I don't really understand why he would lose but whatever...

I suppose that his death was needed for plot.

He most likely would have lived another 50 years if he survived that day, meaning that Hiruzen would have been very old himself by the time that Tobirama died. And Minato wouldn't get the chance to become Hokage at all, he would be dead long before. Alot of things would be different.

1.The versions of it we are use to seeing are V2 and recently minato showed us a Version 3.

2.Tobirama does not have these versions.

3.It was the elite unit of kumo at the time comprised of their top 20 ninja.
The entire point was to give his team some time to get away.

im thinking the kinkaku force was prob as strong as the anbu ops or the Akatsuki Organisation and even if his chakra wasn't low he'd have to use the shadow clones plus the FTG tech along with the water release just to escape
