Lol, if you actually bothered to read that part of the manga again, you'll know that Kakashi is superior to Zabuza in that moment, because of Haku's death, and even Kakashi admits it.

This really doesn't do anything though, your assuming zabuza would of increased in ability as much as kakashi because he was SLIGHTLY(if that) stronger at this point in time but we have no idea that he would of. Furthermore kakashi is a "genius" with a sharingan(pre-war of course) I don't remember anything of the sort being I'd about zabuza. He was strong yea but assuming he would of been some war arc kakashi level nin had he not died is just that. Assuming.

I think his mastery of the Hidden Mist execution technique makes him a pretty viable threat for anyone of this level. Maybe not that he'd win every time, but would for sure be a threat.

Zabuza just had the misfortune of being the series' first villain, and faced pretty much one of the only hard counters to the Hidden Mist assassination (Kakashi's dogs).

Not just Kakashi. Darui and Chojuro, both of the same tier, and relatively "young" as Zabuza, both reached Kage level. They all advanced pretty much in ther physicall stats. And yeah, it's an assumption of course.
