I believe the war could been improved by more casualties on the good side as you have said and even a couple of supporting character's deaths.
I think that would make the war more realistic and intense. imo.

1) both sides lost half participants by the 2nd day.(it was stated in a chapter long time ago)
2) war aint finished yet.
3) i think it could only have been better if we saw more action and less character development , but even the character developments where nice.

Yeah by showing every fight in detail, but its still good the way its coming out

hmm... i guess not. the only problem they seem to be having is with Uchiha Madara. Other than that they pretty much owned the war.
