It seems kishi seems to have a thing for trolling the actual strong characters, i mean obito giving away his eye coz he thinks hes gona die, nagato losing his legs to a to explosive tags, itachi having an unknown illness and minato dying before reaching his full potential (incomplete rasengan and such).
But back to the point, i think the last chapter confirmed that obito was briefly able to use his mangekyo to escape from the rest of the rocks (although he did it unconsciously). you awaken the mangekyo when losing someone close to you. i remember someone made a thread about how it could have been the reverse for obito. as he thought he was dying, he was losing his best friends and in turn awakened the mangekyo.
Now madara confirmed in the last chapter that you need both eyes to use the full potential of the sharingan. now we have seen obito manage to match minato using only 1 of his eyes (although he was eventually outsmarted). after minato, no one was able to even touch him til when konan finally forced him to reveal his other eye which he used for izanagi. he now has nagato's rinnegan and was able to control 6 tailed beasts, has gedo mazo and was able to control kurama in the past.
now madara has obtained the rinnegan through unknown measures, i think it most likely has something to do with obtaining hashirama's power. the sage of the six paths was the uchiha and senju in 1, and madara now possessing both powers awakened the rinnegan. this is also why madara's susanoo is so powerful and massive in size. Susanoo is formed through the materialisation of the user's chakra and as such differs in appearance as well as colour between users. the uchiha were not known for having huge chakra levels whereas the senju and uzumaki were. an uchiha with the MS or EMS would have a normal sized susanoo like itachi and sasuke. an uchiha with senju dna could have a susanoo like madaras (not definite).
madara used hashirama's dna to save obito's life meaning he like madara posesses both powers. although he has not used mokuton, he does possess some zetsu like features. if obito had both eyes, he would have been able to use susanoo and awaken the rinnegan like madara, all that plus his S/T techniques. although madara's MS techniques are not known yet (its not been confirmed that he can use tsukuyomi or amaterasu) i think obito would have surpassed him if not for kishi lol xd.
For those who will say that obito does not possess EMS. it has not been confirmed that you need EMS to advance to rinnegan. If im correct EMS only
stops you going blind. Obito has been using his MS for years and not gone blind yet.
