Minato has to react and cast ftg . There's a time frame where he is susceptible for attacks . That's the reason he's missing both of his arms afterall. Though Minato does have some of the greatest reaction feats in the manga. Don't think he on 8 gate speed level

Minato saved naruto while he was falling down from a foot in the air and then unwrapped his bombs too all under a second or a few seconds at most. there's no reason to assume that Minato cant react. While Gai goes 8th gate he could teleport away easily.. as for the question. If Minato lets himself be hit like that to test his durability then hes probably a dead man.

and teleported away with the chakra balls, before Gai moved an inch

he was even with his back to the balls = no perfekt visual contact >>>>nevertheless he was fast enough , waiting for the balls,and react to gai's 8 gates
