It just came to mind that maybe Madara could have witnessed Hashirama's death. I reckon this could be a cause as to why Madara turned evil, and we have no details so far on how Hashirama died, do you think this is a possibility?

Why would he be touched by Hashirama's death? He tried to kill him himself.

Maybe he did, or at least Zetsu reported it to him, who knows.

But I don't think he would be angered or sad or anything. Okay his idol died but also the only man that could stand against his plans died.
I think he would be pleased, or relieved at least. Maybe slightly depressed for a day or two but that's it. He didn't turn evil for Hashirama.

He was most likely still in his cave being a recluse

It would not have turned him evil as he had already fallen down that path. His death, however, may have been seen by Madara that his plan was the only option because someone who was basically his best friend, and a true man of peace died in war/combat.

I'm guessing he may have witnessed it or seen it through Zetsu's report!
