But what exactly would Lee be able to learn to put him over Gai? I mean, both have the same gates, same style in taijutsu. Gai still has ninjutsu(which he doesn't use but gives him versatility.)

I will say what i always say: This is a story. İt goes whatever the way author wants it to happen. İf Kishi is intended something to happen in story, he would write it that way.

"How Lee will surpass Gai if he is yadda yadda?" Questions would became facts in the way author wants to write it. He creates the story and it is a few drawings and writings based on his ideas to make things "reality" in this fictinal world. For example he can make Lee more endurant to Gates' effects, Add new techniques ot combinations for him, make him drunk, add weaponary, make him more skilled, faster, physically stronger, more intellect there are countless possibilities for what can happen.

Um.. so?

Still doesn't show how Lee would surpass Gai. He still has a long way to go. The only thing he surpasses Gai in is THE POWER OF YOUTH!! Other than that he isn't surpassing Gai but would more likely inherit his youth and teachings once Gai sacrifices himself because he's too boss to die by someones hand.

Noone can surpass the Solo God, even if his goal is to shape Lee into a perfect ninja.

Gai would like Lee to surpass him more than being a "solo God".
How Lee can surpass Gai would depend on what author will write, i âm not saying it is 100% proven but considering what manga/databook have given, Lee surpassing Gai is higher possibility than not doing so.
