Could Kakashi always do this?

In the recent chapters we've seen Kakashi has been watching this battle while he waits for himself to gather enough chakra to teleport back. Well how is he watching the battle? Through his sharingan link with Obito of course:

Notice as he concentrates more, it becomes less blurry and Kakashi is able to make out Naruto and Sasuke working together to defeat Obito. The question is; do you think Kakashi could have tried this earlier and figured out Obito's(Tobi's) ability first? If he did, would it have stopped this war and could Kakashi have stopped Obito after realizing who he was? Is there some special circumstance to which he can do this? Is it Obito allowing him to watch as he loses? Was this foreshadowing by Kishi that says Obito still remembers and loves his old team, Kakashi included? You decide below U_U.

they're just connected at some moment, when high emotions like when Kakashi killed Rin, Obito saw these pictures coming from Kakashi in his mind.

Well let's see, if Kakashi figured out that there was another person with the sharingan as him and they were connected.... the obvious thing is that he would go to find out where he is. But if Kakashi found Tobi(Obito) with his orange mask on earlier around the Akatsuki hideout, he would most surely be killed. U_U Not only would Kakashi find the man with the same eye as him but also the rest of Akatsuki with that man. :| If Kakashi is alone, he would be captured and killed early in the series and that would be shit 'cause Naruto, Sakura and Sasuke(not that he would care much) would lose their sensei. hmm

Obito is not doing it to allow kakashi a first row seat to his defeat.

And kakashi was the one who told everyone about his justu in the first place.


Each time this has happened both have been in the vicinity of one another.

The only difference this time is that kakashi is not distracted by anything at the moment and thus can concentrate on the connection.

I also think that being insides the dimension helps somewhat too.

cause it is both kamui's dimension that is why they are connected. and also since obito can't use kamui that maybe a reason

My expertise tells me that that is a LTO ability that activates only when one is in great stress and in the heat of a battle. Arguably when a person of value (or themselves) is about to die as well, but upcoming chapters will confirm or deny this.

Otherwise he can try to and may be able to, but it only trully activates and becomes clear under the said circumstance.

If he had used it earlier and saw it was Obito though, he would have gone and solo'd. End of discussion.
