Could Jiraiya have really beat Pain, had he known there secret?

Do you believe that Jiraiya really could have beat Pain?

I don't believe so. Konoha as a whole which is superior to Jiraiya with knowledge (not complete but knowledge) couldn't defeat Pain until Naruto arrived but Pain was not attempting to kill him.

So if Jiraiya had complete knowledge on his ability, other than the Outer Paths location, do you think he could have beat him?

Possibly. To simply beat Pain you need to take out the most important Pains first, so I think he would have a chance. I can't remember how many he took down (3?), but he did that without even being fully prepared and where he was fighting was at his disadvantage.

jiraiya is probably one of the most underrated characters in Naruto, and Pain might slightly be overrated, so I'm not surprised by the majority of answers.

Good arguement. But you're saying beat the three Pains is an easy task. Not to mention they could be revived. With field vision, no ninjutsu, Chikabu Tensei, Shinra Tensei, Bansho Ten'nin, gigantic animal summonings and more, how would he defeat the three strongest paths with exhausting himself and possibly dying?

I beg to differ, he would've died almost instantly had deva and asura path been there, human path was useless in that fight and the only offensive path was the animal path. If pein opened up with Deva and Asura paths along with the animal path, I doubt he would've lasted long enough to activate sage mode.

not trying to down him, but when all 6 are there what can he do? Naruto beat him only due to plot.
