ever been at the beach? and got sand in your eyes? hurts right?

sasori with magnetite was able to make it fine and small enough to block puppet joints. gaara has shown to be able to briefly become sand and shunshin to a new location,then reform himself.
so if gaara makes his sand fine enough, he can create a massive sandstorm, blind the opponent then put sand inside their holes (hardy har har), blocking off breathing, vision and hearing.

only reason he hasnt done this or the tactic where he buries you a hundred feet underground, is because hes a good guy and it would be too OP. but that doesnt mean its not well within the realms of his capabillity. it shouldnt even take that long to do with just his gourd sand if he can make it fine enough to be invisible to the naked eye.

its no problem for gaara to control surrounding sand, or make more with his gourd sand. deidara implied the regular sand he controls doesnt have chakra in it. so doujutsu users are powerless to see whats about to happen to them and their oxygen.

only sasori and edos are immune to it.

and imagine if 4th kazekage could construct his gold as efficiently as his son does to sand. with magnet release, the 4th just might become the most OP character.

Gaara is my favorite character among the "good guys" but his powers clearly don't match most of the competitors. He being among the 30 strongest shinobi in existance already makes him a powerhouse, he just doesn't match many of the main fighters in the story. I'd love him to stand out more and develop more and more powers but he just doesn't.

He isn't top 20 by data book standards but there isn't 20 characters that could beat him.
The data book isn't meant to say who could beat who.
It's more of a stat keeper.

Wow you managed to miss the point three times in one post. That's a feat.

1. I already told you, I am merely using the databook as a general blueprint. Take the databook out of the picture and Gaara is still below the first 20 shinobi on that list.

2. My logic is not A>B>C, which is why I put Kisame below Bee (though that is debatable, I admit, one could put Kisame above Bee and still be correct). Because the databook tries to analyze -albeit unaccurately, sometimes- the general power level of the ninja without taking matchups, circumstances, equipment, environments, and intel into account.

Kisame has a good matchup against jinchurikis, that's why (IMHO) he got Bee. Shikamaru got Hidan with superior strategy, intel, and support from his friends; Sai owned Deidara and Sasori AT THE SAME TIME with minimal help from Kankuro and Omoi, but mostly because they had no equipment at the time; Guy was the worst matchup for Kisame (who whas exausted by the fight with Bee anyway). And Gaara, with the desert at his disposal, was owning Deidara (field advantage) but then Deidara got the upper hand by treatening the village (circumstantial advantage) and still won.

In short there are plenty of occasions in which the databook values don't determine the outcome of a fight. The databook indicates the general power level of the ninja, compared to the rest of the ninja world. QUick example: Shino can probably be a though matchup for Sasori because his ultra-slim chakra threads are easy to eat for the Kikaichu Beetle. Does that mean that, in the general picture, Sasori and Shino are on the same league? HELL NO.

3. (following point 2) Gaara could probably beat some shinobi that are above him, point is that in the general picture he is not among the twenty strongest shinobi ever and cannot certainly own "anyone" just because he controls sand. Which is what the OP is stating.

Just cuz someone is ranked higher in the data book doesn't make them better then everyone below them in the data book.
I'd really like to see you make a claim for 20 characters that would beat garra without a doubt. That's what I'm saying.
I could make a counter for all 20 people you come up with.
