i think yeah since armaterasu cant burn through sand. Since Madara susannoo couldnt destroy his sand, i presume neither could itachi. i dont know about tsukyomi though

So many weak arguments in the beginning.

Gaara can MAKE a dessert, which in turn would turn Susanoo useless because he can use the sand under his feet.

Gaara is a long range fighter.. No way he would fight close combat especially with Itachi.

Gaara can fly, Itachi can't. Gaara can spam MASSIVE sand attacks.

Gaara can very much beat Itachi, he is afterall, a Kage.

As much as I love Gaara, no.
If Gaara can't beat deidara...he can't beat Itachi.

Yeah, but he only lost to Deidara because Deidara was going to blow up the village and he had to protect all of his people. That he was able to do it was really incredible. If Gaara didn't have to watch over thousands of other people, in a fair 1 vs. 1, he would have creamed Deidara. So he has a good shot against Itachi.

I've seen alot of people say Gaara could beat Itachi but i'm not really sure myself. In a normal battlefield, I would say Itachi just about wins it. Even then Gaara has a big chance to win. In the desert I would say Gaara wins with low - mid diff, because he can fly etc and he has almost limitless sand. I don't think Itachi could keep up stamina wise. No eye contact if Gaara is high in the sky etc.

What do you guys think?

This aint an Itachi hate thread btw, just want to know what people are thinking :drive:

No, YOU just can't make non hate itachi threads.

Ama is an easy sell for me. Even if it manages to beat Gara's main sand defense people are forgetting his sand armor. If he is hit he can shed the sand that covers his body easily to avoid taking a lot of damage from it. Gaara could win in a desert scenario with mid difficulty.
The only reason Deidra was able to get an attack in on Gaara was simple because he exhausted his chakra and passed out trying to save the village. Even the few small explosions that hit Gaara would not have been enough to defeat him. He just was not able maintain his sand armor and his sand defense after saving the village. Also it distracted him long enough to get an attack through his defense. Otherwise I think Deidra would have been easily defeated. Tsukyomi is a joke, how many times has that been successful in the recent chapters of manga.
After saying all of that and being a Gaara fan I will move onto my biggest point. Gaara cannot win against Itachi. Gaara outranks Itachi is defense and chakra. Itachi's best attributes are not his eyes, genjutsu or ninjutsu. Itachi's best quality is his intelligence. I believe this a lone defeats Gaara. I believe Gaara could defeat Itachi in a desert scenario, but I don't believe Itachi would go all gung ho and charge Gaara on his own terrain. Itachi would never fight under this circumstance he would merely delay and withdraw to a more suitable location. Itachi would never go into a fight without a plan or strategy that he did not think would win for him. He had enough forethought to give Naruto something to help against Sasake. He was able to break the impure world jutsu and then remove it from its wielder. He has understood more about the war than most. He was suspicious of Tobi enough to implant a defense for Sasake against him. Itachi simply thinks so many moves ahead that for Gaara to keep up it would almost remind me of the fight between Hidan and Shikamaru. This coming from a Gaara fan, i simple give way to much credit for intelligence because the manga has shown us time and time again that the strongest, fastest, person and the best ninjutsu does not always win. The person with the best strategy and the best counter seem to be the sharpest tools. Even Naruto showed that even though Neji was stronger than him in almost every category in part 1, that a simple strategy that your opponent does not see can lead to their defeat.

Nope... not a chance... U_U

I won't even talk about the OPed powers of the MS... I'll just remind everyone a fact that tends to be neglected: Itachi is a suiton user... Even with regular eyes, Gaara will be in great dissadvantage if his sand gets wet...

No, every smart person knows what I do in my threads, and they know they aren't trolling, you just don't get the point of them.

Outside of the desert, Gaara stands no chance at all.

In the desert, I'd give Gaara at best 50:50 odds.

Gaara can win because:

1. Gaara can hide in a flying sand ball and locate Itachi using sensor sand. Amaterasu is useless, as Gaara can simply shed an outer layer of sand, and it's off the ball. Tsukoyomi is now useless, and unless Itachi can cast it through walls, so is finger genjutsu.

2. Gaara can bury Itachi's Susano'o using a massive amount of sand from all directions. There is pretty much no way Itachi can dodge this in the desert. Yata Mirror doesn't prevent Itachi from being surrounded and buried. In addition, Gaara can secure Susano'os arms and prevent it from cutting itself out. At this point, Gaara simply waits for Itachi to run out of chakra, then crushes him when Susano'o disapears.

However:

1. Gaara can only pull this off if he manages to get into the ball at all. Itachi has demonstrated that he can end fights in an instant, and there's no guarantee that he won't simply use genjutsu, Tsukoyomi, Amaterasu, or Susano'o>Totsuka stab right away. On the other hand, having fought Sasuke and Madara, in addition to Itachi's genjutsu prowess being widely known, Gaara might be able to take countermeasures in time.

In short, even in the desert Itachi can win right away, but if for any reason he doesn't, Gaara can win without much difficulty.

One main reason that Gaara lost that fight is because he had to focus so much on protecting the village. So he wasn't fighting at 100%.

To be honest, I think Itachi would win.
A) Amaterasu would be hard to defend against with sand.
B) Tsukuyomi would be extremely effective and hard to counter for Gaara.
C) Susanoo would be hard to defeat on his own.

Plus Water jutsu are going to be extemely effective against sand.

A) he already defended amaterasu
B) he can use his third eye
C) in desert hes the boss
TBH I see that Itachi > gaara for several reasons
p.s izanami and the fight is over

I doubt Gaara could even beat Sasuke...so lets not jump to conclusions about what the outcome would be with Itachi...:/

Gaara beat Itachi, the Guy who effortly beat Oro!
People don't grasp how powerful itachi is at 100%. i bet we haven't seen that yet......even the Sasuke fight was staged due to his poor health.

I would say that in the desert, it's possible for Gaara to win since the entire battlefield would be to Gaara's favor. Nothing will penetrate Itachi's Susanoo except the Sand below Itachi's feet. Gaara high up in the air attacking from the distance using the battlefield to his advantage. Amaterasu could be blocked by the Sand as well. If Gaara just makes a giant sphere with Itachi inside it to make sure Itachi cant use Amaterasu on him since Gaara would be outside of it then that could also be usefull.

If it's completely dark in there though, Itachi's line of sight would also be gone. Gaara won't be able to see in there either with his floating eye thing. He would have to use the Sand to determine Itachi's location the same way he seemed to have detected Muu on his first appereance. On the other hand, Itachi has fire style to make his own light. He would have to endure the Sand attacking from all directions including under his feet while he also attempts to get out of the sphere. All this before his Susanoo drains him dry.

If the fight starts face to face, then Itachi would most likely win though since he could simply start out with genjutsu. Or if he just choses to use Totsuka Blade in the start of the battle. Amaterasu might be blocked the same way he blocked Sasuke's.

Just note that the reason why Gaara had a hard time with Deidara was because Deidara had explosives and flight.

The fight won't go this way exactly. Since intellect and strategy would also take part along with any fatal mistakes. Other techniques might go into play that I haven't mentioned either.

In my opinion, Gaara does have a chance to win in an environment that suits him (desert). Any other environment that doesn't, he wouldn't win.

I would jump in this, but the base is acting weird for me. :/ One thing I would say, is that it would be interesting to know if Itachi's Yaskak Magatama is as strong as Madara's, which took Gaara's strongest defense, and the aid of Onoki's and STILL pierced it, and it was a lesser version that Itachi's I believe. And Itachi DID use it on the chidori tensei, along with the strongest attacks of Naruto and Bee.
and this could also be done even if Gaara is in the air...
