Could eating the fruit be Sasuke's motive all along?

We all knew that Sasuke read the Uchiha Tablet so he knew the story about chakra, the 10tails the power one can gain by consuming the fruit. We also know that he has ulterior motives so is it possible that getting his hands on that fruit was his goal from the beginning?
