I'm assuming you are talking about earth in the narutoverse (since many wants us to talk about the elements effect in real life and stuff )

Earth release is one of the basic five elemental nature transformation, and it make you able to control things like mud, rock, dirt etc. that is laying around you.
Earth release makes it possible for the user to make the earth heavier, lighter, harder or softer. Earth release techniques are great to use for both defence and offence, with big walls hard as steel, to pillars that fly towards the opponent, hurting them.
Earth is strong against water and weak against lightning.

Serizawa sit down on the ground with his legs crossed. He lets his chakra flow into the ground beneath him. By doing this he feels the warmth of the earth. He feels like his body is becoming one with the ground, and he can feel any crumble in the ground.

*whispers something as I touch my palm on the ground, turning the ground beneath you into a small puddle of gravel mud.*
That's earth for you, cruel, cold and dirty.

Using earth is probably the easiest thing to do.
Earth is all around you, it's always available, but fire needs to be created, like lightning and partially water.
I want you, to first get out of the mud, and then touch your palm to the ground, try to make an impact on the ground the best way you can using your chakra, any deformation is acceptable.
Do NOT, clean up.

Serizawa focus his chakra into his palms, and touch the ground with them. Some nearby gravels starts to shake, not much, but a little.

It's simple, we kill the batman just embrace the earth with your chakra, and manipulate your chakra, not the earth itself.

Serizawa once again focus his chakra into his palms and touches the ground with them. This time he tries to control the chakra that flows through the earth, and not the earth that the chakra flows through. Suddenly the ground start to shake a bit, not much, but enough that you can feel it. A small pillar of dirt rises from the earth right next to Serizawa.

Dude! That was totally intentional!

*Uses my own chakra to push the pillar back in*
I didn't see anything, again.

Serizawa focus his chakra into his palms once again, hopefully for the last time. He slam his palms into the ground, and try to control his chakra as it moves around in the ground beneath them. This time the ground shake more violently than the last time, and a bigger and more solid pillar rises (that's what she said) just next to Serizawa.

This time, damnit! It's impossible for you to not see this!
