Try touching up on taoism and hinduism since thats where kishi gets his inspiration from.

The two statues represent the Asuras and the Devas.

Left side being Asura - peaceful and all that is good (Ashura) but throughout the years, they become percieved to be as bad as the Devas due to what length they will go through just to perserve something good/innocent.

(I really dont get why Kishi named him Ashura rather than Agni) its what describe him the best. Hes the twin brother of Indra and the god of sacrifice. Messenger of the gods. Which technically what Naruto is.

Right side being the Devas - the benevolent counterpart of the Asuras (Indra). Constantly battling each other.

(Kishi got Indra right though, since he is the king of the gods)


So when Itachi chose the Asura's path, he knew what he is sacrificing for the greater good. Even Obito and Itachi told Sasuke what Itachi had to go through. Being an enemy of the state so that Konoha survives. Killing his own kin to stop Danzo from going to war with the Uchiha. Having his little brother despise him rather than hate the village. This is the Asura's path. Taking the blame, doing whatever it is -good or bad- just to save something that is good.
