Recently, there is a news reported abt a boy who has turned blind during a BBQ. He was wearing contact lenses as he was bbqing, and out of sudden he shouted for help. Friends and relatives tried to help but dont know what is the causes of his pain. The boy was sent to a nearby hospital and was reported that he was blinded for life due to the contact lenses that actually melted due to expose for high temperature.

SO PLEASE DO NOT USE CONTACT LENSES WHEN YOU ARE EXPOSE TO HIGH TEMPERATURE, such as cooking or BBQ.

Please spread <3

I believe that quality of lenses are also for something though - just like some glasses melt at hot temperatures and some don't.

Still, it's indeed wise not to wear lenses while cooking ect... Just as wearing plastics clothes.

Yikes... I'll have to change how I wear contacts now. I'll also tell my brother as he tends to do everything with contacts on. Thanks for letting me know but still feel bad for that boy... t-t

Woah.. I think you just saved me right there...
I was gonna sit in the Sauna after I do my workout soon. o_o
Really nice timing.

Or:

Some Contact lenses have a melting point at 90 degrees Celsius.
Most contacts are made out of silicone, which can usually take up to 200 degrees Celsius.
With that much heat, you face will melt off before you contacts melt (not literally, but you'll get burned pretty bad.)

It's an urban myth.

You say "news reported" and yet you do not provide any link or other source.

funny that there hasn't been any other news like that ever before. And to my knowledge contact lense users have not been instructed that they couldn't barbeque with contact lenses, so....bad trolling and an urban legend.

I didnt make a further research after hearing this. Yea, it also bugs me why didnt the manual restrict such a thing.

Mugi maybe is right.

But over all, my intention is just to share.

Well who would wear contact lens during cooking or barbeque-ing? What, you need to see the hot charcoal very clearly? I take off my contacts when the weather's hot cause I know my eyes our going to itch.

I still believe it can be done. Cooking oil often pops and by the time you close your eyelids, Oil could have got onto the contacts. They would melt in seconds and closing you eyelid would probably ensure maximum heat.
