There's usually a small button in the left hand corner when connecting FB that lets you privatize it by selecting "Only Me".

You could make an alt FB account and test it.

I believe it only links you part information of your facebook to your NB account like your interests.

It's so that if you don't want to waste time making an account, you can just connect using a social media (twitter, facebook). There are alot of websites that use this feature.

You can skip the entire registering process by using this feature but you can also use it for logging in. The information used to complete your profile / account is Biography, Location, Interests, Occupation and Date of Birth. However, during registration, you can decline this as well.
