Har har, it's-a-me, Wafflio!
I would happily suggest the series of Conn Iggulden, especially the Conqueror series.
It starts from mongol tribes and goes to great extent to reveal parts of the mongolian history that you might not have known. Not all is truth based, mainly because writing hadn't really been too popular that time, but main parts indeed are. This is a great series, has 5 books and can be found with soft covers.
Umm, yea, read it, just read it. Also James Clavell is a wonderful author, just for the note.
