actually last time i heard anything about the cannon of the story even this part of boruto is cannon but its just a different starting point than the manga since they needed time to introduce the characters and their abilities before the manga started since the manga only comes out once a month it would catch up much too fast. Its odd cause in this case the anime is the leading cannon not the manga but i cant complain cause its better than waiting months for the arc after the movie ties in to the actual story and at least were getting decent content also i must say i love the animation i feel they did considderably well with it.
