I’ve thought about this for some time and haven’t come up with any highly plausible facts as to why Kakashi killed his childhood friend. How about any of you, if so enlighten me PLEASE!

and the hunter-nins wanted her body and were mad that kakashi took out rin

kakashi probably learned what the hunter-nins did by first hand experience and took out rin cause she had something to do with the mist
i was going to make a thread about this but decided not too
It is either because she was some sort of spy, held intelligenc, indicated by the Mist Anbu that they were at least after her body then she had some sort of unique ability. The last and my persoanl thought is that being surrounded Kakashi decided (probably with Rin's insistence) to kill her...the little Kakashi at the end would be a natural fear of death or being sad to leave the person she had said she loves.
If they were surrounded by loads of Shinobi and had to fend them off, Kakashi could've easily just got caught in the ruckus and accidently wacked a Chidori through her, would explain better why they were both so shocked and distraught.
i feel like he had no choice but to do so. maybe they really wanted to capture her because she had some secret ability or whatever and he had to choose between letting them take away his friend which would put Konoha in danger or having to kill her in order to prevent Konoha from being in danger and to prevent Rin from suffering as a hostage. I mean i doubt he wanted to kill her, when he was killing her he was crying out of his left eye just like he was when obito 'died' too so. I also think Madra had something to do with it because how the hell did Zetus know about what was going on unless he set it up? I dunno man, so many things could've happen, guess we'll just have to wait and see
If she was a spy she wouldn't have been buried in the villiage.
I actually think it was a mercy kill. They had done something to her and gained control over her body and Kakashi killed her as an act of mercy because there was nothing he could do to save her.
