[Discussion] Concerning Scopper Gaban

Why does nearly everyone think that Scopper Gaban was the 3rd strongest Roger Pirate, similar to how Sanji is in Strawhats? I really didn't get that.

We haven't seen the entirety of the Roger Pirates, nor have we seen what Gaban is capable of and I don't believe there is any indication or statement saying that Gaban is the third strongest. We haven't even seen his battle strength.

We know that Roger Pirates had Metallic names indicating status. Following that trend, shouldn't there be a Norman Bronzer (or something)?

Gol D Roger - Captain (Gold)
Silvers Rayleigh - 1st Mate (Silver)
Norman Bronzer - 2nd Mate (Bronze)?

And aren't there other metals more important than copper (Scopper Gaban)?

To put it simply, we don't know any other metals in the Roger crew.


The elite officers in the Roger pirates all have a theme of metals as you noted.



Until we see another metal, we can infer he's the number three. Your thought also assumes Oda is.going off of a Medal (like say Olympic medal) theme. Gold silver bronze. For all we know it could be pricing metals. Which Copper sells well. It's actually illegal to sell copper from certain things in the US.

I have heard many say that. I really hope not. That would make Kaido very old too and it would be better to have a fresh character with a distinct background.

Was everyone shown in the Roger Crew? No. That's the point.

Ye, I get what you meant. Just never seen that either. If anything they just speak about Roger and Rayleigh since Shanks was just a cabin boy back then.

Really? I've heard all sort of stuff from Gaban easily being admiral level to him waiting at Raftel for the next PK to taking on a Gorosei in the final war.

Well he will obviously be strong, he is in the strongest crew in history. Not sure about Admiral level though, like you said, we need to see more from him.

Well its not illegal to sell copper. It's just certain ways of doing it. Like going to a copper fence or.something like that. Can never remember the specifics.

But, the point is, of the Roger crew there are only three members with metals.


Roger, Rayleigh, Scopper.


Until we see more of Roger's crew and learn of their names, Scopper is likely the third strongest KNOWN Roger pirate.


Roger > Rayleigh > Scopper > Crocus > Seagull > Shanks > Buggy (during Roger's time)

Does it automatically mean he's number three? No. But for now we just assume so as we don't know any other names.

Because copper is the next precious metal after silver and gold. It's nothing but speculation but it seems a pretty safe bet given how Oda does things like this.

We barely know anything of Roger's crew and it's for that exact reason as why so many people see him as the 3rd strongest. Why bothering introducing him with no background whatsoever if he wasn't special? It doesn't make much sense to know the two strongest fighters and then introduce an additional crew member, but one that's then weaker then the supposed third strongest. So calling him the #3 of the Roger crew is simply a reason to explain him being special.

Btw bronze is an alloy that's the result of mixing tin with copper with copper being the most prominent present. Bronze, unlike gold and silver, is not something you find in nature, it's man made.

So hence an additional reason to see him as #3 as he indeed is related to bronze.
