you're right, it's obvious he got shut down before literally anything could be done..but you still have to consider that as a fight...the deidara vs itachi was wasn;t it?

Look at Orochimaru's leg.. 1 is infront.. indicating he was making a step forward the moment the genjutsu hit him... As I said...Itachi wouldn't attack for no reason .. unless he was sure the person intended harm to him..

yes, there was a pre-ritual encounter, this being it. But as you said, it's shown that Orochimaru is stepping up to bang, face-to-face. For all we know this was a "you ready to get ****ed up situation" and Itachi just put his ass in genjutsu before anything happened.

As shown against Deidara he was wrapped with his own technique, here we see nothing surrounding Orochimau (snakes). Orochi obviously just understaffed Itachi, as he himself was surprised that he was caught so effortlessly.

Itachi was 12 in my opinion why?

When part 1 ended, the databook said Itachi was 18 and it was also one month after Oro took Genryuumaru's body.

Orochimaru took Genryuumaru's body after he told Sandaime that he had taken two bodies since he became immortal meaning that, by the end of part 1, Orochimaru had taken 3 bodies total, and since there is a 3 year wait between each body, this means he has used his immortality tech over a course of 9 years at the end of part 1.

Remember that Itachi was 18 at the end of part 1.


So this was the chain of events-

Orochimaru completed his kinjutsu 9 years before part 1 and took someone's body.
Itachi's age at this time-18-9=9 years old.

Three years passed

Orochimaru had joined Akatsuki and it was now time for reincarnation, he tried to take Itachi's body and failed.
Itachi's age 9+3=12 years old

Three years passed

Orochimaru took someone else's body.
Itachi's age 12+3=15 years old

Three years passed

Orochimaru tried to take Sasuke's body but Sound Four were too late and he took Genryuumaru's then part 1 ended.
Itachi's age=15+3=18 years old.

I also don t think Orochimaru was trying to get Itachi s body. At a very young age Itachi was able to exterminate the most powerful clan in the history alone and join a organization like akatsuki. A normal kid of his age would be at the ninja academy or in gennin level. Don t you think a man like orochimaru would have been extremely curious about Itachi? So he confrontated him to measure how powerful he was. After that he was fascinated about his power and the desire to possess uchiha s body and power was born, but because itachi was too powerful he was forced to go after sasuke.

I have thought about this before, and honestly I think it's a misconception in the translation. It doesn't make sense that Kisame knew about Orochimaru, and when he left the organization. Clearly it's either that or Kishi making a mistake. Very solid proof exists for Kisame not having any interaction with Akatsuki till the year of the uchiha massacre
