I took intro took graphic design my freshmen year in college. Liked it a lot! We learned the basics to Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign. Basically doing really beginner things, like learning about all the different tools in each separate program, what they do, how they function. Learned how to imitate shapes and logos and make them on your own. All really basic things to pave the road for more complicated things, like adjusting images and such. Try it out, you will get too see what its all about in the introductory class and you choose if you like it or not, and if you want to take the higher division classes or not.

Really? o_O I'm taking all this now and I'm still a junior in High school.
We use photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Flash. I agree with you, it's fun and you do get introduced to the tools you can use and how to apply everything you've learn to create something better and more complex.
We usually do projects, right now we're designing an interactive game, we're using both photoshop and flash to do this.
I'm looking forward to learning more about this.

Okay here is a reality check.

Graphic Design, If you have the skills and have a creative mind then go for it. Do not go for it if you want to make money. It takes a long time to get paid for what you do in the Graphic Design world (I know this im in a similar field). You might even need to take on a second job if you want to survive in the first 10 years in the business. Here is the truth, you have to build your portfolio up. Which means your going to be freelancing soon as you get out of college. Unless you are lucky and get taken in by some company you will be freelancing, taking any job you can get and it's not always pleasing. Once you make a name for yourself and done some work where people might reconize you than you can apply to a company and they may take you in.

This is the life of a graphic designer
Freelance
build portfolio
for about 8-10years
Network with other people
then maybe you get a nice job

Hope it helps and doesn't deterr you from what you want to do.

Agreed, money will not come quickly with this profession. Since many can do it and its not too hard to learn. Some dont even take school and master photoshop and similar programs from there homes, via youtube lol...
