Death Note was a poor man's Monster (Go wiki the anime, Monster). It was an enjoyable episode after another, yet they never answered the question they began the story with.
That question was; "Is it alright (or a positive type of justice) to kill evil people?" The series tiptoed out of answering this question immediately after it set it's entire plot around it. The characters were interesting enough and I especially enjoyed the art style for the manga and music for the anime, but I think it started with the mindset of targeting 18+ year olds then changed the story and how they wanted to portray it when it became intensely popular with the younger fan-base.
Code Geass was an amazing work up until the second series rolled around. That being said, I still have a soft spot for it because of how they ended it (last few episodes). Was pretty great.
