Japanese scientists have successfully cloned a 98 percent pure Saber-Tooth Tiger at the Japanese government-funded laboratory, Riken Center for Development Biology. The baby, named "Ryu" is said to be in good health and is currently being monitored 24 hours a day by a team of 6 specialists. Tests are ongoing, but it has been confirmed that the baby is 98% pure Saber-Tooth. The team hope to begin work on the second cloned Saber-Tooth Tiger within the next 2 months and when the two reach maturity, they will be breed naturally. This will create a second generation with 98.4% pure Saber-Tooth DNA. After as little as 6 generations, they hope to have a 100% pure specimen and begin the first global captive breeding program for previously extinct animals. The project already had a massive investment pool. Recent news has sparked interest from finance moguls from around the world. "There has been a large interest from Saudi Arabia in setting up an exclusive deal to house the first pair of Saber-Tooth tigers." - Said Dr David Lai of Riken Center for Development Biology. So how exactly does one go about cloning a Saber-Tooth Tiger? The scientists replace the nuclei of Mountain Tiger egg cells with those of a Saber-Tooth Tiger, producing embryos with Saber-Tooth DNA. Then, those embryos where planted into the womb of a Mountain Tiger for delivery. The Saber-Tooth cells then form internal organs, skin, bones and blood. Finding well-preserved tissue with an undamaged gene was the most difficult task, the researchers said. They managed to strike lucky when a team drilling for natural gas in Siberia came by a strange reading on their ground radar, which later turned out to be a perfectly frozen Saber-Tooth Tiger. I read this article and was amazed, the science community has came so far, there is an article of a cloned dinosaur as well, what's your thoughts on this? I honestly don't think its unethical in my opinion. I could see it being unethical if you're a person who is religious however by doing this I wonder how this will play out. Links in the qoute for people who want to verify by the way.

Yeah kinda figured now I went more thorough with the research I just figured that site was legit, my bad either way the possibilities of it happening are still out there. If it did I would be happy however, disappointed.

An article on a cloned dinosaur? Impossible. There isn't any genetic relative close enough to them for Scientists to even start the process, not even considering how many birth defects and failures that'd occur and we'd certainly hear about. The only way to "revive" Dinosaurs would be to slowly tweak with the DNA of birds. They've done it with chickens, giving a fetus teeth and a long tail. Well, relative.

A 98.8% pure Human is a Chimpanzee. I know this article isn't real, but if this did happen and the DNA was off by 2% you would have an entirely different animal.

Haha well I know that a couple of articles they have done in the past were hoaxes, and this one if you google it further, seems like a hoax too. It's a shame though, would have been cool. Not sure if ethical though and they would seriously have to consider the implications environmentally. At first the 'sabertooth' wouldn't fit any niches and would soon start to climb up the food chain by eating different species (they could cause species to be extinct even). Oh well...same with Dinosaurs but they would have been even cooler XD Oh and if you want better scientific news try newscientist, they're good

Why so?

Humans are a product of nature. Anything we do is, in itself, natural. To believe we are something outside of, or above, the very nature we revere is just silly.

Now, that said - our intellect and our wisdom is also a product of nature. If a creature is no longer around in our environment, we should carefully consider the impact of that creature being re-introduced into the ecology should zoo escapes or breaches of containment on wildlife preserves occur.

But we do stupid stuff in the name of preserving some near-extinct animal all the time.

There was a big to-do about re-introducing Elk into Missouri. It's been one big celebration.

Then they're going to find out that Elk and local deer populations are in competition for grazing grounds - and it's really going to start changing opinions when the Priuses and Smart Cars start hitting Elk on the highway, obliterating whole families.

Then you have the farmers who have to deal with them getting into crops and destroying them by bedding down (and eating others).

There are things to be considered with every action to be taken. Everyone is an environmentalist until termites collapse the roof on their head.

don't worry we will never be able to clone Dinosaurs, sins DNA decays over time... (and no you can't just extract DNA from a mosquito incarcerated in amber, it doesn't work like that)

given the most optimal circumstances and the ideal temperature any and all "left overs" of DNA will be totally gone after 6.8 million years, and no, that does not mean that as long as the creature is 6.7 million years or younger we can clone it, it just means that there will be some DNA secuences that is "readable" pretty much after 1 million year we lose the possibility to be able to clone the animal...
