It works for both of those techniques. When you use clay, it's best to follow with a wind technique. Wind > Lightning. However, fire can also be used to destroy clay, although not as commonly used.

*I take some clay with my left palm mouth and start chewing it.While I'm chewing it I infuse the clay with my Blast chakra and once I'm done with that I divide the clay into two separate parts and I shape each into a bird.I then spit out the birds into my hand and throw them where I inlarge them and send them high into the air from where they both dive towards your clone and they both colide with him together and in that moment I perform a hand seal and detonate the birds,blasting your clone into pieces.*

(Kibaku Nendou Kobun) Exploding Clay Minions

Deidara creates thin clay wires, at the end of which form vaguely humanoid deformed clay beasts, that then lumber slowly towards the opponent. They can trap weapons within themselves. If cut apart, they can be made to reform by Deidara manipulating the clay. However, if hit by lightning or fire Ninjutsu, they cannot explode. Deidara can make the minions detonate with force of eight C1 bombs.

Take some explosive clay in your palms, and then "throw it up" onto the ground. As it lays on the ground, raise two humanoid figures from it using a clay cord connect to your palm, where they will lumber awkwardly towards me.

Perhaps to delay them with these minions and distrct them while for example I get them with clay snake's from below.

How are you going to mold other creatures when you constantly are molding the clay wires attached to the minions?

I would have them alreayd prepared on my legs.

Exactly. Point is, you'll never really use this technique. Even though its really unique and interesting, its just not that plausible to use in our RP.
