Clans before the so6p time?

Just a thought, i remember when Jiraiyah was explaining the sage of six paths i remember him saying that he appeared in a time of endless war. So this makes me think was it a war between clans? ( sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.)

No fool is there any evidence that the Sage is an Uzumaki? There were no clans before him and the most logical explanation about Uzumaki's is that they came from the Senju just like how the Hyuga came from the Uchiha.

Yes there were more clans around, but none of them were able to use jutsu. They were also probably clans we don't really know about or a variation of the clans today
