So, do any of you know what's actually happening?

I'm pretty interested in how the rest of the world views this matter and how much of the truth has come out.

What do you think of it?

In general the prime minister called erdogan wanted to built up his power
he tried that by starting a vote to change the fact that he can only be prime minister for 8 years which will be filled next year i think after that he wanted to be voted as the position of abdullah gül but after changing the laws he would be as strong in power as obama in usa
also he started changing the life of the citizens in turkey for example by forbid alcohol or forbid the shortcut tc which implys the turkish democratie (türk cumuhiriyeti)
the "civil war" started because he wanted to built a bridge in istanbul and by doing this he would erase the biggest i think green area
then they started to demonstrate against that at the beginning only with a few hundrets but after the police got harsh with them more and more citizens started to demonstrate
this built up to demonstrations in more cities not because of the bridge but because of the government and theyre restrictions against the citizens and in general the islamic viewpoint of the akp

The middle east is f*cked up right now, all we need is more sh*t to happen...

Dont get me wrong, I am middle eastern, and it annoys me so bad, that for the last hundred years, maybe more, we havent had a year in peace, or quietness.

I hope in a decade or so, we have all this crap done with.

i doubt it will turn into a civil war. The west needs Turkey in their alliance to counter Iran geopolitically.
Yeah, the thing is; it already has. Today was brutal. I didn't go to the protests because my survival instinct finally kicked in and convinced me that it was pretty unwise to go and be a sitting duck in front of these blasted police forces. The couple of gas cans I enjoyed on numerous parts of my body on the first three days of the protests only reminded me of the fact that I really like to live.

This morning, at around 06:00 am, the mayor of Istanbul announced that there would be absolutely no action taken by the police against the protestors, just like the last couple of days. Taksim square has turned into a well functioning Smurf Village by the way. Anyways, after said decleration, families took their kids to the festivities going on around Taksim square. With stuff like dance classes for kids, finger painting whatever the hell they want to paint, recitals and so on, it was basically a heaven for toddlers.

07:30 am; police forces surround Taksim square and start bombarding people with tear gas launchers, water cannons and plastic bullets. Many of the families made it out but there's a 13 year old kid who was mauled by some police that's literally bleeding his brain out.

The worst thing is that no ambulances can reach the area because the police have blocked all the roads and additionally, the government has canceled every kind of public transportation that enables one to cross from the Asian to the European side of Istanbul. A couple of hotels are used as safe houses and nurseries. I keep recieving photos via twitter and facebook and there are many who have undergone severe head trauma, internal bleeding, broken limbs, split up heads, missing eyes and so on.

It has been like this on the 4th,5th,6th and 7th days of the protests too. The police rested for a couple of days and now they're hitting ten times harder.

There is little to no media coverage of the happenings. We're actually following the news via CNN International. They're live at Taksim square while Turkish TV channels are broadcasting bloody soap operas.

The goverment is blatantly threatening the protesters with death. Seriously. That idiot of a mayor tweeted a death threat.

The clashes are still going on and, if I take my experience into account, it's going to get a lot worse by tomorrow.

That's terrible. I honestly haven't seen or heard much the protests.

If anything, make sure your loved-ones are safe.

Make sure you are safe.

I'm going to see what I can find out about this on the net.

Ya I heard. Every foreign incident all I hear are dumb privates whispering about whether or not were going.
The UN is gonna shut this down quick imo.

I think that US, EU and Britain condemned Erdogan because he's not attacking Syria. Erdogan actually made very interesting comments.

So Obama and Erdogan are being punished for not actively attacking Syria. This is obvious to me. So, with Russia's 'line in the sand', an attack on Syria will quickly escalate and potentially be suicide for the west. That doesn't matter to the controllers.

I am Turkish and i know what is going on; it is terrible. I highly doubt if this ever leads us to our country to a civil war; but certainly we are experiencing something which is really different from regular basis.

I hope government actually learsn from it and realizes that everyone counts something in this country; not just "their people"; i am not happy with them; but also i do not see them going anywhere.
