Chapter 4
Blackness rained down gently over the snow plains of the Land of Snow. The patches of black snow that covered the fields looked like blackened blood staining the country. Sections of the country were scarred, incinerated completely, smoldering with ash.
The roars of shinobi echoed throughout the frost bitten forests of the country. Explosions, the sound of metal clashing and piercing through flesh, the symphony of battle resonated in snowy fields.
“Hyuton: Haryo Moko (Ice Release: Tearing Dragon Fierce Tiger)” The voice of a shinobi was immediately followed by the formation of a giant ice tiger that ran its way through several shinobi baring the headbands of the Aaragakure.
“Katon: Goryuka no Jutsu (Fire Release: Great Dragon Fire Technique)” Another shinobi, of Aragakure spoke just before releasing a giant flaming dragon to combat the ice tiger. The two elemental animals fought like old rivals coming face to face again. The tiger crouched, ready to pounce onto the dragon that stood flaring seam from its nostrils. They leapt towards one another and engaged each other in dancing warfare, the natural conflict between the two animals was beautifully destructive, unlike the carnage of the warriors who summoned them to their grounds of battle. Nevertheless their fight ended in a draw, the ice turning into steam and the remnants of the fire was the smoke that fled into the sky.
The clouds shared their palace in the sky with dreaded smoke, smoke that darkened the sky and concealed the sun’s rays from illuminating the war that raged below. Smoke that was only parted by winds of a small colorful entity that flew above, observing the scene below as it passed.
“Honestly,” Isabella said atop her rainbow colored parrot.
“Honestly, honestly!” The parrot repeated like a broken record.
“Cut that out!”
“Hehe, sorry Isabella-san, it’s just funny is all,” the parrot began with a snicker; “This whole incident and seeing you get annoyed about it.”
“I could care less about this whole scene, it’s only when it steers me off course and forces me to fly over it that I get annoyed.”
“I thought you liked flying?”
“Yeah, but not when I have to fly through thick smog,” Isabella coughed slightly, “I mean I can barely see through these thick smoke clouds with my Sharingan.”
“Are you actually paying attention to what’s going on? I thought you said you didn’t care about this situation.”
“I don’t,” Isabella began, “it’s just the idiocy of these two villages is intriguing, especially Aragakure; staging an invasion in Yuki territory where their enemy knows the place inside and out? Not to mention the entire country is their greatest weapon with their unique Ice techniques. The best way to have taken down a village like Yukigakure would’ve been to break them apart from the inside, gather intelligence, insert spies of sabotage to cause internal strife and part their attention away while they’re busy fighting themselves. Then that leaves you with two options, strategically place small units of soldiers in isolated areas around the country and attack all at once causing mass confusion with a guerrilla attack. Or force your way into a dysfunctional village with a surprise full-fledged invasion where they have no means of organizing their own troops fast enough to deal with you.”
“Wow, seems like you’ve thought a lot about this Isabella-san,” the parrot laughed.
“Not really, it’s common sense really. Only idiots would attack a village that has managed to literally militarize their country the way the Yuki shinobi have.
“The Land of Snow and Yukigakure are formidable opponents despite only being a lesser village, doesn’t it worry you that they and the Land of Water are not on good terms and that they’re within close proximities of one another?”
“Not in the slightest.”
“Why not?”
“One, I just told you how we’d go about beating them if we went to war with them, two, their ice isn’t a problem for us, and three, from the history of the village’s existence they’ve showed a high degree of intelligence that is almost admirable.”
“How is that last one relevant?”
“They’re smart, meaning they’re not dumb enough to mess with us.”
The parrot snickered and continued parting the smoke to give him clarity as he traveled through towards Kiri.

“War between Ara and Yuki?” Orochimaru said as he sat at his desk.
“Yeah, our scouts confirmed it. A large fleet of ships from Aragakure were docked in several locations along the borders of the Land of Snow.” Asura confirmed.
“Should we take advantage of this situation and launch our own plans against Yukigakure and the Land of Snow from another angle?” Near asked, “This is the perfect opportunity to wipe them out.”
“No, they’ll both end up wiping each other out.”
“You really think so?” The voice of a woman said from just outside the office. Isabella entered the room and came up to the side of the two other generals, “You think Aragakure would be able to hold their own against Yuki, let alone cause significant damage?”
“You underestimate them Isabella,” Orochimaru began. “This war has been long waiting between the two and I highly doubt they’d go in unprepared. Besides, from what I can tell, so far this war doesn’t seem to be your basic bumping of the heads. The level of fire jutsu from the members of Aragakure is incredible.”
“I’ll say, you could see the smoke practically from the shores of our country,” Isabella said, “But what does that have to do with anything?”
“How envious the members of Yukigakure must be of our Yuki clan, who can freely create their own ice and manipulate it as well as any other pre-existing entity. The kekkei genkai must be looked on with much prejudice,” Orochimaru snickers, “maybe that’s why they hate us so much.”
“The Yuki clan’s kekkei genkai?” Near wondered.
“I think I get it,” Isabella smiled, “but still, to do that would be extremely difficult.”
“Even so, it’s fascinating to watch,” Orochimaru concluded, “We’ll just let this play out.” As the Mizukage turned to face the window Near and Asura remained bemused to their Mizukage and Isabella’s understanding. The mist of Kirigakure shrouded the skyscraper high clouds of smoke that were birthed in the lands some few kilometers away.
Beyond the mist, in the fields snowy fields of the Land of Snow, plains and forests laid littered with corpses, the snow stained with red blood and black smoldering ash. A masked shinobi with the markings of Yukigakure stood looking over the field as men passed him, bringing the corpses and wounded comrades back into their territory.
“Come in…anybody, report!” The static from the radio intercom on the Anbu shinobi’s mask transmitted the voice of the Yukigakure Leader.
“Reporting in, from front 3,” The shinobi said.
“Identify yourself.”
“Anbu Commander, Blizzard.”
“Report.”
“Full retreat from the Storm shinobi,” Blizzard said, “Scouts confirm the departure of their ships have begun. I made the executive call not to pursue, our injured and casualties are too high, we need to regroup sir.”
“Understood, keep post until you’re certain all of them have left our shores and report back here.”
“Very good sir.” Blizzard cut transmission and stood ahead of his troops, overlooking the horizon. The sun was bright and radiant over the Land of Snow and a single beat of sweat dripped down from Blizzard’s mask and onto the ground below. Moments later, several more drops began to fall onto the snowy ground. It started off slow but progressively became faster. Blizzard looked up into the sky as snow turned to rain falling over the Land of Snow. “Rain?”
Above, standing at the peak of a large mountain, two hooded figures stood wearing black cloaks with distinguishing red clouds. Far from the detection of the Yuki shinobi, the cloaked figures looked down as it rained on them.
“hehe, it’s starting to get warmer here,” one of the shinobi said. “Should we migrate?” the shinobi smile as he turned his head in Kiri’s direction.
“Not yet, we still have our orders…in due time though, in due time.”
