Amaterasu is only ever used against people who can survive it because everyone else would die. It one-shots 99% of the narutoverse. This is just the only way to show it without ending the series.

There lots of jutsu's that should have killed. Amaterasu is one of them. Plot no Jutsu bests it, that's all.

Its one hell of the jutsu, sasuke should have used it again after madara took his Armour off, spam it a bit more or use it continuously like itachi did.
