It's again the time we choose our representative for this year Mafia Championship!
We will make nominations from the last 2 games and after the nominees will accept I will post a poll and the first player voted will become the representative and the second will be the back up.
You can find in the spoiler all the details about the tournament!

INVITATION TO THE MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP (SEASON 13)

Ahoy there! :)

I’m very excited to invite your community to participate in Season 13 of the Mafia Championship.

The Mafia Championship is an annual forum-based tournament series that pits representatives from various online Mafia (aka Werewolf) communities against one another as they compete to determine the Internet’s greatest Mafia players. Each participating community democratically elects one person to represent them and be their “Champion”.

The tournament first started back in 2013. Since then, 420+ different communities and 50+ different nationalities have been represented.

It’s a super fun event that has created many new friendships and close bonds between communities. I hope that you would be interested in taking part :)

DO YOU ACCEPT THE INVITATION?

If your community wishes to participate, please confirm your participation with Arapocalypse or Master Radishes as soon as possible to secure a spot. Currently, the plan is to accommodate 136 communities this season.

If your community agrees to participate, the deadline for selecting your representative is March 4th, but the sooner the better.

The games will take place on Mafia Universe. If you’re interested, I can link directly to the general discussion thread regarding this topic on Mafia Universe.

Important notes
You may decide how you want to elect your representative, but we recommend some sort of democratic process (public nominations followed by a poll usually works out well). Once your rep has been decided, let us know directly as soon as possible!
In addition to electing a representative, you should also name an alternate (a back-up) who will be asked to step in if the first choice needs to back out.
These games are typically very active! Your representative should be prepared to read upwards of 500-1000 posts per 24 hours during the early days of the game. This volume may vary drastically depending on how active the players in your game are, and we can’t guarantee if you will be in a low or high volume game before the game starts! Only active players should apply/participate. To reiterate: Your chosen representative must be able to handle a good amount of daily activity!
Activity requirement: each player must write at least 10 posts per Game Day. That said, be aware players typically post much more than 10 times to engage meaningfully with the game! We don’t recommend a specific number, but it often helps players to check in a few times each day and stay up to date in the game when possible, to reduce getting overwhelmed catching up on posts!

SEASON 13 FORMAT

The tournament structure
136 communities will participate, each sending one representative.
QUALIFIERS: 8 Qualifier Games will be played, consisting of 17 players each. I.e. every representative plays in one Qualifier Game. The players themselves vote post-game to determine who is deserving of advancement. 1st and 2nd places will advance to the Semifinal Games.
BONUS ROUND: Any community backups who were not called on during the Qualifier round will be invited to play in a special Game of Backups, a chance for them to participate in champs hype!
SEMIFINALS: A Jury consisting of finalists from Season 12 will select 29 additional players to advance to the three Semifinal Games. From each game, five players will advance to the Finale Game based on a post-game player vote, just like in the qualifying phase.
THE FINALE: The Finale Game is played. Once it has completed, the winning team will receive the title of Season 13 Champions and a winner’s certificate signed by Dmitry Davidoff, the creator of mafia.

The qualifier games will be played using the Matrix 2x5 setup (see below), and semifinal/finale games will be played using the Mountainous setup.

This year’s Qualifier Setup: Matrix 2x5
This (view picture below) is a semi-open grid setup meant for 17 players: 4 mafia versus 13 townies.

You must be registered to see images

First you randomly select a number to decide the Mafia team's composition of Power Roles (1-2), then you randomly select a letter to decide the Town's composition of Power Roles (A-E). Fill in the number of Vanilla Townies needed to make the Town team have 13 members total, and you have your setup.
Important Notes for Matrix 2x5
The Mafia's factional kill must be assigned to a single member of their team each night. This means that the Mafia's factional kill can, for example, be blocked by a Town Jailkeeper or tracked by a Town Tracker.
None of the included roles can self-target, including the protective roles.
Doctors, Jailkeepers, and Roleblockers are not allowed to target the same players on consecutive nights.
The Even Night Vigilante may only shoot on even nights (i.e. Night 2, Night 4, etc.).
The Voyeur's own action will not show up in their result.
This year’s Semifinals/Finale Setup: Mountainous
x12 Vanilla Town
x3 Mafia Goon

Relevant mechanics info for both Matrix 2x5 and Mountainous Setups
Day start.
Majority elimination will not be enabled during Day 1 and is not required at any point for the elimination. Majority will be turned on as an option starting Day 2, with a delay.
Tied votes will result in one of the tied players being eliminated at random
Votes are automatically locked in at LYLO
No outside communication. I.e. you may not contact the other players outside of the thread (unless you are Mafia and wish to speak with your teammates).
Mafia may communicate any time. We suggest using a Discord server for mafia chat!
Mafia share a mandatory factional Night Kill, a single standard shot for their faction.
Phase Lengths/Deadlines are up to the players (based on player preferences)
Thread is locked during Night Phases.
Each individual player may make a maximum of 125 posts per day phase (the postcap will be either lifted by a few posts or increased at 1 hour before EoD).
An organizer will oversee everything and make sure everyone’s following the code of conduct, but otherwise the game is completely automated (automatic votecounts, thread locks and reveals alignments automatically, receiving/processing actions, etc.)

SEASON 13 TIMELINE

There will be 8 Qualifier Games, and your representative plays in just one of these. Their start dates are each Monday from March 9th – April 27th. In other words, as long as your representative can play sometime during that period, they should be good and I’ll make sure they get scheduled into a game that suits their schedule.

The 3 Semifinal Games will be played in May/June/July, and the Finale Game sometime in July/August/September (whenever we can work out something that suits everyone). The Game of Backups will be played between the Qualifiers and Semifinal Games.

If you want to get in contact with us ASAP, you can reach us on Discord at lissa2, arapocalypse, or masterradishes.

Kind regards,
The Season 13 Championship Organizers

For who doesn't know, the championship games are more performative and intense, and that makes them challenging and fun!

Thank you, I can't be chosen, I have jury duties in Champs this year (the jury advances players from qualifiers games who show good play and are not voted by the players to advance).

I recommend nominating a moderator, someone who has experience dealing with stressful and emotionally charged situations and people who are not on their best behavior.

Or, activity- honestly, you want your most active player who can handle lots of hours playing the game.

If you do not want to endure potentially stressful situations like randing mafia when you don't want to, all your teammates deciding they are out for themselves, playing for the glory, not doing teamwork, making bad decisions, and then if you can't handle folks in the spectator chat trashing your play all game and "hoping" you are mafia, I would decline, personally.

You have to have a strong stomach, I've gone 3 times out of 12 years. season 1, season 2, and season 6.

One game of season 2 was the only one I had fun in, and, honestly, several players that game were pretty not fun to play with. I just performed really well and advanced to the finals, and met my wife that game.

So.... have a strong stomach and a lot of time.

Its possible to have a good time, for me, it was like 25 percent odds I'd have fun, so.

I also never randed mafia, which I'm good at, so.

Good luck to whoever goes, have a lot of free time and have a jovial attitude.

People around you will want you to be the nice person who makes the game fun, that's useful as both alignments, btw.

I also hope my warning makes no sense once you get there, I'd love for you to have a good time.

Just, in case, be ready not to.

I thought lucid did well in the last game but they might be too busy and big boss seemed invested so I think they’d be good also. I might be weird I always liked going and would be content if someone nominated themself to go tbh

I did marry her, I am now single after 10 years.

I was town in the finale, the setup was 10 town, one of which was a cop.

versus 3 mafia.

So, my objective was to keep the cop alive.

I made it seem like I was the cop trying a gambit by deliberately drawing a lot of attention to the fact that i wasnt giving cop cover by leaving a false cop check result of innocent, which, is expected of all the normal townies in that setup.

I built a large pile of people I was sure were town on day one, they were town.

then i was murdered night one.

the real cop scanned a mafia, and then claimed a different mafia was scanned guilty

said mafia visibly gave up and stopped posting

at which time the cop said, oh, its so much worse than that

i actually scanned this other person guilty and thought you two were teamed, and it turns out you are, so thanks for giving up

he then interrogated everyone and determined that bankertin was town and so was soah and finally accused ratchet.

so in a single round, coolkid, the cop i tried to draw the murder for, and succeeded, found all 3 mafia and got 2 of them dead back to back.

town failed to agree with his assessment that ratchet was guilty so town somehow lost

but coolkid earned the title of champion that year due to his amazing play, i wrote about it in my player's guide.

I explained this was the only good use of faking a guilty result as the real cop I had EVER seen

Generally, you dont do that, because it is selfish, and throws the game 95 percent of the time.

and the 1 in 20 times it doesnt happen in my experience, no one is impressed, you basically played russian roulette and won, its not skill, it's a lucky shot that the mafia cant argue against and would have destroyed town if you guess wrong.

but coolkid's lie was brilliant because how he did it was SAFE.

because he was fully in control and could have rescinded if the bluff didnt work

and it worked because of his detective skills and good acting and guessing.

So, I didnt die for nothing, I was a team player, too.

The mafia went after me n1 because the previous game, i faked cop checks on townies and a mafia, when i died, i had 2 fake innocent checks on adaham and yates, even though i wasnt the real cop

so the real cop lived and got a guilty check on coolkid, actually. he advanced to the finals from the same game as me.

but since i died over the real cop it meant the MAFIA believed my fake innocent scan results on 2 players

which means they were innocent.

which means town got 2 extra free scan results thanks to my lies.

plus i led the town to destroy Mr. Capps on day 2, who was mafia.

and i died instead of the real cop on like night 3, which meant we had a cop alive on day 4

which is crazy.

thats why i got nominated to advance, my antics got 2 mafia dead, 1 directly, 1 due to keeping the real cop alive, and also, i got 2 extra innocent scans on alive townies

that boxed in the final wolf, turnip head, rest in peace bud.

so, my lies helped town win, a lot.

thats why i advanced with coolkid, who was a capable liar and won the fight with the cop and got the cop eliminated, died the next day, obvious MVP of his team, and voted best player both games.

I could be a season champion if not for coolkid, but frankly, he earned it. i was honored to play with a brilliant player like him, he retired immediately after that game.

I did very well. i could consider my performance in both games a deserved silver medal but they dont really count those.

Damn almost a season winner, still bragging rights.
