Choosing the right college

Wassup NB? I'm a senior in high school and I am looking into colleges that I have a good chance at getting into within my state. I was planning on studying something along the computer science, software engineering, game dvelopement, creative writing, etc., path... but who would've known deciding where you're gonna live for 4 of the most important years of your life that you won't be able to get back.

With that being said, I've narrowed my choices to two schools. One is a HBCU with a male to female ratio of 1:18 while the other is a party school near the beach and has lots of snowbunnies(white girls who like to take vitamin bbc). I hear that graduating from a party school would be a whole lot better looking on a job application since it shows that I stuck through all the drugs and partying and oes and went above and beyond lol. I have a half sibling that does to the hbcu but we arent close at all but I have a couple friends that already attend the hbcu. It has less people compared to the other (7,000+ vs 20,000+), making it I guess easier in a sense but I've never really had a social life like going out to big ass college parties and meetting a lot of new people. help pls

Honestly, the school doesn't matter too much as long as you can pay for it without having 50k worth of student debt afterward and pick up an internship along the way. If your goal is to get into the computer science/engineering field, you need a strong skill base with the top used programs. The best way to get this experience is in a school that offers those courses. However, getting an internship can get you a leg up on others when branching into the industry.

Whether you take a paid or unpaid internship, you can develop at that company and become a valuable employee for them to hire after you graduate. To be honest, if you get your hands on this, your grades don't matter a whole lot as long as you have the computer/ program skills they need. Even if your internship doesn't turn into a job offer, those skills will give you a leg up on other candidates lacking your same skills.

Lastly, only companies like intel require really high GPA's to even be considered, and apparently having a connection within the company can bypass this. If you know anyone at all that has family or friends at a good company, having a reference from them or just a good word may be the difference maker you need. Often people working at a company know when the getting is good, especially if the company is growing and will take unusual chances on graduates. Again, even if its a party school, the main things is graduating, preferably with a 3.0 if you can, getting an internship and getting as much program/ modeling knowledge you can manage.

The only thing that should matter in the slightest when choosing a college is your desired field of study. Research the collages and look into what classes they offer; which one will offer the best classes that relate to your desired career?

Also, another big thing to research is whether or not these colleges operate in semester or quarter systems. Colleges that use the quarter system mean you'll only have roughly 10 weeks of class per quarter, which may seem preferable but remember that means you have an entire class to study, do homework for, and have multiple major tests in only 10 weeks at a time. Semester systems have roughly 16 weeks of class, which means a less intense/stressful class but it will take nearly double the amount of time to get your academic credits since the classes have an additional 6 weeks than the quarter system.

The campus itself should be properly researched. Keep in mind, college is SO MUCH BETTER than high school. Let me tell you personally, high school is hell compared to the gates of heaven that is college - so do take care of yourself and make sure that the physical grounds and building aesthetic is something that you'll enjoy going to for the next several years. It may sound silly, but this is really the first time in your academic life that you are given 100% freedom of choice in where you go. Why not express that freedom and really make sure the college you plan on spending countless hours and money on is one that you enjoy physically going to?

Tuition cost is a factor, but honestly there are plenty of financial aid programs that compared to the other things I mentioned that should not be a dealbreaker. You'll have plenty of time to meet girls, theres no point in forfeiting your academic freedom now in favor of going to a college just to meet girls. Likewise, there will be plenty of opportunity to party later on down the road, plus consider the possibility that you go to a party school and then discover you just dont like parties. Sometimes the best kind of parties are when you can sit down at home with your real friends and have a few drinks together, as oppose to wild parties that are essentially raves.

Edit: If you want to get into an art field such as game development, then i would strongly suggest looking for colleges that will cater to an art field. There are colleges specifically for the arts, and some of them may even lead to industry level careers right out the gate with a proper portfolio and recommendation. Keep this in mind, the best part of going to college is making contacts. So make sure to really research what colleges offer what classes, who teaches those classes, and if possible where some of that colleges students have gone off to accomplish.

I'd say as long as you can get around people who are of like-mindedness as yourself then do that an learn from them in the real world not in a camp where everybody gets triggered because you have a different opinion or mindset!..

Most the folks i know who are in those camps right now are stressed out an not getting what they're going for.. Just more debt an more problems..

Didn't give you much here I'm just stating my piece an i hope it can make you make the right choice in whatever you pursue..
