imo...
katana if enemy doesnt have armor or has light armor, even though it's overrated(we arent talking about legendary katanas forged by smiting gods in hellfire)
broadsword if he has light armor or heavy armor, short but fast and versatile, stabs can get between armor plates/chainmail rings/whatever or simply pierce through them
greatsword (blunt+cutting damage from slices, armor piercing from stabs) and mace (blunt damage + piercing if it's spiked) if he's heavily armored, but hard to use and master I bet
axe and greathammer are useless, hard to hit with, spear/glaive/yari only good when defending vs cavalry or in a formation or something and getting a knife instead of a broadsword is like praying to god for a smaller penis
