Loss of blood is a serious condition, and a not very uncommon one in the shinobi battlefield. When a person reaches such a dangerous state, a Medical Ninja can ease their symptoms by using this jutsu. First, the medical nin places a surgically precise cut on the patient and then another cut on the donor. The donor and the recipient must have their respective cuts within six inches of each other; this is typically accomplished by cutting their opposing arms and having them lay beside each other. The Medical Ninja then forms a sphere of chakra between the two cuts drawing out blood from both patients and altering it so that the blood type of the donor matches that of the recipient. It is important to remember that taking more than 1 pint of blood from a donor is extremely dangerous, even with the loss of only 1 pint of blood the donor may suffer from dizziness and fatigue.

The Technique:

(Iryō Ninjutsu: Chishio Tensou no Jutsu) Medical Technique: Blood transfusion Technique
Type: Supplementary
Rank: A-Rank
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 30 (per turn)
Damage Points: N/A
Description: Once the Medical Ninja has a donor (a willing one or not), he or she makes two small cuts, one on the patient, and one on the donor, placing them side by side so it is easy to put those cuts about 30 cms apart. Then the Nin forms a chakra orb which then transfuses the blood from the donor to the patient. The technique requires high levels of chakra control and can even change the blood type of the donor to match that of the patient.
Note: It transfers 400ml of blood per turn

Homework:

The homework for the class is to write a small description and explanation of blood loss and its effects on humans, namely in narutoverse context. You'll be graded in how you can join real life logic with narutoverse logic.

Blood loss can be devastating to the body if it happens in large amounts, not much so if contained. This is due to the bloods job of carrying oxygen throughout the body. First, the patient would feel weak, due to less oxygen being pumped into the muscles. Followed by a feeling of light headedness as the body redirects blood toward vital organs, and away from certain areas of the brain. This is shortly followed by the patient passing out, where one can usually see a difference in pigment. The blood vessels that use to be full are shrivelling, making the patient paler. This also leads to the patient feeling colder as this is one of the regulator's of body temperature. Before long, shock will set in where the patient will die if they haven't began treatment.

What this means to the Naruto world is simple. Any open wound can begin the aforementioned stages of blood loss, so depending on the severity of the wound received in battle, they may have a lot or little time before they go through all of the stages and die. This is entirely dependent on the wound received and other factors, but it can be used as a general guide for triage. So a slice from a kunai will probably stop itself before blood loss becomes an issue, but a katana slash across your back has high potential of death if treatment isn't received immediately.

Blood loss can vary in amounts, or lethality. Normally, slight scratches give out very little blood, however when dealing with serious injures, huge amounts of blood will start to come out. Now, this is naturally a bad sign. Blood is the main aspect for a living being to stay alive, as it carries oxygen/supplies, hormones, gives immunity to your organism etc. Now, when a blood loss occurrs, the human will start to feel weak and cold, the heart beats grow faster and faster, as the heart desperately tries to compensate for the loss, and ultimately, the respiratory system increases its work. This all happens shortly before the human will receive the shock and then pass away.

I believe the same logic applies to NarutoVerse world too. The blood loss will vary by your distinct cuts/injures, and if it's not a big deal of a cut, then the blood will coagulate, however enormous blood loss will need to be dealt quickly. As Xicer mentioned, a katana slash is probably sufficent to make this happen.
