Correct me if I'm wrong (and this is my first post), but when Nagato activated his rinnegan after seeing Yahiko get hurt, didn't Jiraiya say only the child of prophecy can obtain the rinnegan? I'm not really sure because my memory on the manga and anime is really blurred.

He didn't say that, you need to watch some refresher episodes, 173&174 to be exact

Welcome. And the prophecy itself was that Jiraiya would be the teacher of a shinobi that would change the ninja world, either saving it or destroying it. Jiraiya believed that Nagato could be that child of prophecy based on the fact that he was his teacher and he had the same eyes as the Sage but the rinnegan was just a coincidence not having anything to do with the prophecy itself. LOL dafuq I just write.
